I've seen a lot of talk about fountain pens lately. Question for y'all.
My kid is artistically inclined by hates doing any handwriting. Would getting them fountain pens be a way to help them enjoy writing more?

A few weeks ago a #FountainPen person from #NewZealand was looking for fountain pen shops. Today I bumped into one in Auckland that did not show up in my web searches. It has at least Nahvalur, Pilot, Platinum, TWSBI, Cross, Kaweco, Ferris Wheel Press, Lamy, and probably others I have forgotten.
In shop prices seem about normal by Australian standards ( allowing for currency conversion ).

I bought my first fountain pen today!
Another sketchbook page with corvids! Tried out the Sailor fude 45 fountain pen, super fun!

When doing Inkvent, I tend to swatch and ink up a pen with the new ink in the morning, use the pen all day for work notes or whatever, and then write up some thoughts in my little inkvent journal.
This is great on week days, but I don't write nearly as much on the weekend. The ink for last Saturday was a real banger, but I hardly got to use it before it was time to clean out the pen. #FountainPen #Inkvent

Question for the #FountainPen hive mind. I love the Diplomat Magnum. I love how bouncy the nib is. I love how lightweight it is. I love the snap cap function, tactility, and sound. My only complaint is the diameter. I find pretty much all number 5 nib pens to be too narrow for me and give me hand cramps.
Is there a pen that is basically the Diplomat Magnum but widened enough to be a #6 nib? (Yes the extra 1 or 2 mm do matter)

Haha but serious: those fountain pens that cost thousands of dollars are collectible art pieces that aren’t actually optimized for a good writing experience. They’re CEO bait.
Serious hand-writers use fountain pens that mostly cost between $30 and $200. You can get decent ones for $10 but they tend not to be very airtight and quickly dry out.
My #1 practical recommendation is the TWSBI Eco, which is generally around $40 in the west.

I can definitely put my mouth where my money is re: recommending TWSBI Eco as my #1 practical pen.
