OMG I just figured out a reason why I feel so uncomfortable with video conferences.
In an in-person conversation, both people have some control over the personal space between them. If someone is taking up too much of your visual field, you can take a step back (or 2). But in a video conference, each person controls their own distance from their camera, and thereby, the perceived distance from whoever is looking at their camera feed.

Not sure if this is a stretch, but has anyone managed to get automated #captions (or CART) and shareable live #transcriptions working with the public #Jitsi Meet instance, even via a third-party app?
I'm not interested in self-hosting, and I'm open to paid solutions. I know that there are some services that offer a bot that you can invite into your meeting to transcribe, but the ones I've tried don't work with Jitsi (Iist in 🧵)

My pro meeting audio tip for #GNOME users: map an unused top-right corner keyboard key as global shortcut for (un)muting the microphone, then paper-sticker-label it.
Now no need to have the meeting browser tab focused (or to remember each conferencing app's shortcuts) to toggle your microphone input.
The recording indicator in the top-right of your screen in GNOME reflects that change, although a bit too subtly. Up for grabs for newcomers: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/8077
