In January, Donald Trump signed an executive order to rename the Gulf of Mexico, and did his best to strong-arm newsrooms into using its new moniker, the Gulf of America. Nine months, and many executive orders later, how is it going? Nieman Lab's Joshua Benton says the new name hasn't stuck in media, or in general use — to the extent that a Trump-loving retirement community in Florida refused to rename Gulf of Mexico Drive to Gulf of America Drive. Here's more.

#Tucson #Arizona all along Speedway from Tucson, Ave to Coffee Times both sides of the road were packed. Tons of cars honking and waving in solidarity. Only one fat idiot on a Harley heckled. Extremely polite, friendly and enjoyable environment.

Absolutely, I find the Whitehouse press concurrence with the liar in chief's banning of AP for standing up for the truth to be sickening. #GulfOfMexico
Wanted to show this to @archeaids but figured I’d share it with everyone. It’s an old blog post about visiting an #Indigenous midden with ancient pottery shards off the coast of #Louisiana. The site was almost lost, getting submerged by water due to sea level rise. Local tribes have intervened since then. It’s a very short post with lots of photos.

Observation. #GoogleMaps has updated the #GulfOfMexico to be #GulfOfAmerica. #OpenStreetMap apps such as #OSMand and #OrganicMaps have not. And it isn't for lack of contribution; there's tons of contributions in this area of the map just in the last couple hours. It's just that, as an open source non profit not based in the US; it's a little less susceptible to political nonsense like renaming a body of water to be more 'Murican. Who would've thought maps could get political.
