Never forget …

An image of a young infant who has polio, in a tiny iron lung machine; only the infant's head is visible. There are two medical personnel looking down at the infant. The image is captioned "1940s Pediatric Iron Lung".

All the hard work and progress in public health in the last century is being wiped out by these stupid anti-vaxxers! They haven't seen the havoc and suffering brought on by such highly communicable deadly diseases, for which we have readily available prevention. The harm being done by these brain-dead antisocial elements is criminal.

“It’s crucial to understand why measles matters,” said Dr. Kate O’Brien, director of the WHO’s Department of Immunization, Vaccines and Biologicals. “Its high transmissibility means that even small drops in vaccine coverage can trigger outbreaks, like a fire alarm going off when smoke is detected first.”

That is, measles is often the first disease to pop up when vaccination rates overall drop.

"When we see measles cases, it signals that gaps are almost certainly likely for other vaccine-preventable diseases like diphtheria or whooping cough or polio, even though they may not be setting off the fire alarm just yet," O'Brien said at a media briefing Monday, ahead of the release of the WHO's Progress Toward Measles Elimination report, published Friday in its Weekly Epidemiological Record.

The main reason my parents fled #Saigon#Vietnam was because they were hoping to go somewhere else where doctors could help to save my life. I carried that guilt for decades until healing it with my loving parents who sacrificed their lives & their own life dreams in order to try to get me the medical help that I needed as a paralyzed toddler with #polio. My parents wanted to stay in Vietnam & rebuild our lives there. They couldn't stay because there was no medical help available for me.

Meanwhile, about 66,000 tons of #food #aid is in danger of rotting in warehouses, #AIDS cases are forecast to spike in #Africa & the government projected the cuts would result in 200,000 more cases of paralysis caused by #polio each year. Already, children are dying unnecessarily in #Sudan.
