Third chapter of R the Software Engineering Way is live! Featuring:
- Using rv in a Docker container
- Writing your own ABC Rejection Sampler
- Snapshot tests!
rv is a new declarative command-line package manager for the R programming language written in Rust. Being declarative, I've found it to be far-and-away better at dependency resolution than any of the other package managers …
Using rv in a container

I pulled out the section of my last chapter where I discussed how to run rv in a container and turned it into a small standalone post (mostly because it seems like the kind of thing people will google and there don't appear to be many good resources for it available yet).

It is Monday, and I've made some edits to the first chapter of 'R the Software Engineering Way': I'm now using pak rather than Packrat, I'm using a versioned base R image and a few other improvements have been made. One hopes that people find this useful!
Now, onto the next chapter!
Chapter 1 of R the Software Engineering Way is now up! In it, we learn about R functions, how they work and when to write them, and we learn about control flow tools that software engineers use a lot but statisticians don't:
Dark times call for desperate measures, and with my career being a little hosed and my wanting to like, have money to pay rent, I'm writing a book! It's about teaching R users to write code like software engineers do, and the hope is that I can use it partially as content marketing for my coaching offerings. Here's the first chapter:

I attended the dry-run of this course* recently and it was pretty mind-blowing - I'd seen before how #pixi can be used for python packaging but this course introduced me to a few new example use cases:
- Reproducible data analysis in #R
- A new application in #C
-Image processing with #Python
- #Jupyter Notebook for exploratory analysis
