Some days, the world breaks
down, like decomposition
of leaves in the rain
#SmallPoems #SundayHaiku response
(You and are writing a lot about leaves these days .. we are true New Englanders)
rainy and cool out
as the dawn breaks for the day
to dry fallen leaves
A wind dance romance;
each branch leaves its love to chance,
and wild circumstance
#SmallPoems #SundayHaiku response
(Yet another one that doesn't quite make sense but is built on rhyme word play, which I enjoy doing from time to time)
hanging leaves are sparse
as fall completes its changes
auguring winter
Time seems elusive
when the hands of the small clock
bend themselves backwards
#SmallPoems #SundayHaiku response
the clocks are set back
no longer are we saving
time. It's standard now.
chilly at the start
of an expected cool day,
this marks October

Trees become artists:
they're painting summer grass with
dollops of color

Each day brings delay
as summer decays into
Autumn's short embrace
#SmallPoems #SundayHaiku response
dull, muted colors
adorn the trees this autumn
from a dry summer
With wind on its way,
how many leaves will remain,
from those here today?
#SmallPoems #SundayHaiku response
(We still have plenty of green here so I suspect the coming storm will do what it does, but that foliage will still be strong in the aftermath -- not like some year, where one good storm brings everything down)
the forecast is rain,
followed by quite a bit more,
a fall nor'easter
One final petal
drops beneath the fallen leaves
of the old oak tree
#SmallPoems #SundayHaiku response
flowers bloom briefly
before the winter winds blow,
stretching out fall's sway
Noticing darkness
falling earlier each day;
Autumn's arrival
#SmallPoems #SundayHaiku response
(Hard not to notice the shortening days here in New England these days, as October rounds the bend on us)
darker earlier,
lighter later for morning,
mark fall's progression
chill on equinox
overnight, upper forties
marks arriving fall
Lightning bayonets
striking trees, thundering fierce;
we stay inside, safe
#SmallPoems#SundayHaiku response
Yesterday, we were under a tornado watch (and hail watch) in the afternoon and it was scary for about 20 minutes. Nothing touched ground here, but there was constant bursts of close lighting and heavy rains.
a sliding cold front
delivers needed rainfall,
breaking summer drought
