We don't approve of "The Fedilore Otter" due to their obsession with stalking the Black queer users of the fediverse. Currently they're implying that a queer Black user who called out the following posts fetishizing "brown women" and bragging about their nazi ancestry, is bad.

Calling out the absent reference isn't bad. The issue here is that transtina has used women of color as a fetish publicly and then also described their nazi ancestors as "fun lore", which to people of color whom were/are targets of fascism, isn't "fun" and can't tell if you're joking.

The fediblock hashtag was called for by a Black trans person in this case, and as a general reminder, the fediblock hashtag was started by Marcia X, a person of color, to protect against serial sexual harassment. She has a write up here where she describes being stalked and dealing with racism.

When you make a post about Black, Indigenous, or other people of color, you consent to people of those communities deciding if what you've said is appropriate, because you're talking about them, without knowing what it's like to walk in their shoes.

Fedilore Otter targets 3-4 Black queer/trans users consistently and often uses the marginalizations of the (almost always white) individuals that are being called out for racism to make them appear more charitable. For instance, they'll say something like, "a Jewish run instance" or "a transfem run instance" as if that allows those instances to host racist users with no repercussions.

One marginalization does not justify you being racist though.

In this instance, fedilore has implied that being trans and Jewish allows for racism, and by doing so, they've also erased that the Black user they're targeting is also trans, because they want to make it seem as a random cis person is attacking a trans person, but that is not the case.

A Black trans person has called out a white trans person for racism, and nothing more.

In this thread, this mod complains about users who are angry about a Nazi making an account, defends the mod team from criticism, and repeats that closed registration is not an option. At no point does the mod apologize or admit fault on behalf of the team.

Now obviously the instance policy is not the doing of that sole mod so no, he's not individually responsible for what happened. But the team is.

Open registration makes so much more work for the rest of us, putting the burden on the network of smaller instances to clean things up due to the few massive instances that, as @welshpixie pointed out, prioritize growth over safety in their choice to maintain open registration.

Several notorious serial harassers who show up in fediblock literally every week wouldn't be able to keep up their harassment without instances like mas.to, mastodon.social, mstdn.social, and others with open registration. That policy allows these stalkers to make hundreds (not an exaggeration) of alt accounts for free, quickly.

Their large size also punishes our users when we are forced to defed them to keep our users safe, cutting them off from many mutuals and also limiting the reach of their fundraising posts (which as I have previously stated are more prevalent on BQL due to the impact of employment discrimination, institutional racism, etc on all Black queers).

This is what it means to enable abuse. This is what complicity looks like. It brings me no joy to have to say this, but it's the truth.

Well, I made a blocklist for it. It updates daily, though I think I'm going to have to start updating it multiple times a day.

My GoToSocial instance reads the blocklist every day and applies it. The issue is that it changes frequently (entries added/removed) so you're best off also having some kind of 'retractions' support if you do that.... unless you just want any domain that's on FreeDNS pre-seeded into your blocklist.

Seems like we keep going in circles with the racist disinfo getting circulated by the likes of fedilore. Every few months, they make up more distortion of the truth and circulate it, and every few months there are some new white folks who decide to tune in for the first time and get upset about the lies they are told.

Let's take a recent example, although fedilore has used this same trick several times before. Here's a post of theirs: https://mastodon.social/@fedilore/114356007777167981

So you can see that this post is a screenshot of a Fediblock post by Shrig for Loli dot rodeo. Right next to that screenshot is a screenshot of a heat rating from TBS. The instance has no TBS source instances suspending or limiting them. Fedilore will often then compare that heat rating to the heat rating of jorts dot horse, an instance that they feel was wrongly suspended. Their argument is that "the point is transphobia not safety".

But the thing is, fedilore made that post barely 3 hours to the minute after Shrig's Fediblock post, meaning there's barely been any time for anyone to take action after seeing the post in the first place. As a matter of fact, just a few more hours after that post, my mods banned the instance. And as of a few minutes ago it has a 20% heat rating, meaning that another source instance took action as well.

So here we can clearly see the kind of underhanded tricks that fedilore will often use to manipulate the truth and distort the facts. They purposefully tried to make it seem like no TBS source instances cared to moderate pedophilia, which if you look closely at the details and timestamps is clearly an unfair take. But this is the kind of stuff they do all the time.

Oh, and you may be asking yourself if, in their efforts to chronicle bigotry on the fediverse, they so much as mentioned how eris recently misgendered me once again. As it turns out, just like every other time a Black person has been misgendered on this platform, fedilore said absolutely nothing.

Stop taking these charlatans seriously. They are liars, racists, and they will never admit to either of those things. Show some discernment.
