#Ireland is adopting a default 30 kmh (19 mph) speed limit in urban areas
"The aim is to have 30km/h speed limits in built-up and urban areas operational by 31 March 2027.
In February, the default speed limits on rural local roads decreased from 80km/h to 60km/h.
This reduction in the speed limit was done as part of the #RoadSafety Strategy which aims to halve deaths and serious injuries on Irish roads by 2030.
The next step is limiting the speed limit in urban and built-up areas to 30km/h."

#KualaLumpur is a frustratingly annoying city from a #transit and #walkability perspective.
Perfectly nice, clean, on-schedule trains, lovely stations, surrounded by horrible connectivity and terrible pedestrian access. It's a system designed to fail, and there's no reason it should be this bad.
@ncoca Welcome to the pavements/sidewalks of Malaysia! Malaysia's development overly focuses on roads, to the extent that they forget pedestrians have legs and lives too, and need to walk. Maybe the politicians are enjoying their wealthy life in moneyland while we are all in poverty, and we are blamed for our poverty.

The Irish NCT should only be testing emissions. The rest of it is just to punish people for owning older cars.
Show us the studies that demonstrate that all of this theater is preventing injury and accidents.
The only study I can find is a meta-study showing that there are no studies internationally demonstrating that there is any non-compromised evidence of effectiveness: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8296297/ #Mastodaoine #RoadSafety
20mph speed limits save lives. Research from London:
"Child casualties dropped by 46%, and children killed by 75%"
20mph = Fewer maimed and dead children.
Difficult to argue with that.
I commented somewhere recently that it's unfair to run a town without useful public transport because it encourages people to drive when they shouldn't and harm themselves and others.
Now we see that NHS staff fatigue combines with a lack of public transport to kill them, and others, on the roads.
Not running useful transport at all hospital shift changes is very cruel.
