I usually don’t buy too many CDs nowadays, but when you see something this cool, you gotta grab it.

This CD compilation combines BOTH of the first two Silver Apples albums: the self-titled debut, and the equally as great Contact.

Awesome and weird late-60s electronic music that was WAY ahead of its time.
Pulsing, droning tones made entirely from oscillators made by Simeon Coxe himself.
NO KEYBOARDS.

Minimal, repetitive, hypnotic… long before every Kraut and his mother were doing it. It’s a bit of a cold, interstellar kind of psych music, and it set the table for a lot of genres; #synthpop , #industrial music, #electronica … all of it.

The band SUICIDE gets a lot of credit, but maybe it’s Silver Apples that should have gotten the same flowers and parades.

If you don’t know it, do these visionaries a favor and lend them your ears.

Great little set.

Other than saying it's electronic and instrumental, it's hard to pigeonhole this album genre-wise. But it plays with some nice moody sounds, with a range of pace and busyness.

Tadpole are hard to pigeonhole genre-wise. Imagine Linkin Park but with powerful singing instead of angsty whinging (not yucking your yum if you like LP, but it's not my jam).

Speaking of Tapdole, I just finshed #listening to their 2013 album E M;

This album has no vocals, I'm not sure it even has any live instruments. It's like someone took an empty Jamiesons bottle, filled it with moonshine, and put it on the bottle store shelf. Even if the moonshine is fantastic - and E M is pretty good - it's not like Jamiesons.

It sounds more like Optimus Gryme than the Tadpole of The Buddhafinger or The Medusa.

I first met Grouch about 20 years ago in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, at a flow night, or maybe full moon drumming. Loved his first album The Moof is Rooving, released in 2006, and I've been enjoying his music ever since.

A protest song from the 1998 album Politics Can be Fun. I vaguely remember downloading this on Napster in 99(?). It's a fun bit of musical satire, that skewers the Westminster Parliamentary system with great use of samples, like;

The tracks are short, mellow instrumentals, with a vaguely melancholic vibe. It's kind of dubby, kind of jazzy, kind of hip-hoppy. Hard to pigeonhole, which is maybe why I'm enjoying it.

I was sceptical at first, unwelcome echoes of my own halting experiments with Fruity Loops on Windows 98, but this track grew on me as it evolved. It's a playful piece, and much more sophisticated in its execution that it initially seems.

The song begins with a haunting melody against a moody, atmospheric backdrop, then explodes into an electroclash anthem with strong hints of retro new wave. A fun and unexpected little drop of song for the evening. Glad I finally got around to browsing @mirlo for some tunes.

#Listening to Shapeshifter's Soulstice album, released in 2006;

NewPipe happened to be set to 0.75x speed when I started the album, and it turns out New Day Come actually sounds really good at this speed. The beat is a bit less frantic, the instrumentation more atmospheric, and the vocal deeper and more brooding, while still being uplifting. Speed-shifting music is fun.
