Recently, I've been thinking quite a bit about Linux (and possibly NetBSD) on Chromebook and Chromebox hardware.
I've used a Chromebook with Linux as my daily driver laptop for quite a while a couple years ago. Switched back to a ThinkPad for a bit more CPU power and memory.
I see a lot of value in these Chromebooks that have been liberated with CoreBoot. I posted about it quite a bit a few years ago. May have to get back into it.
Things look like they have changed a bit. Before, a lot of the newer Chromebooks could not be liberated. Now, it looks like pretty much every Chrome device with an Intel processor can be. That's a big improvement.

When I first installed CachyOS on this Chromebook, the brightness didn't work very well, and the built in sound didn't work at all. Now, with subsequent Linux updates, I find that the brightness works as normal, and today my sound suddenly works; I've never heard these internal speakers before. Comfy.

Here are some sceenshots of Mint on a 2018 Lenovo laptop I bought for $250 on Ebay. I'll be able to use this laptop for many years to come, far longer than any Mac computer runs macOS.
It boots faster than an M1 MacMini running macOS. Apps launch faster than they do on the Mac. No #Apple #surveillance. Full control of MY device with a free, #privacy respecting OS produced by people concerned not with profit but with making a great OS. Same for the #FreeSoftware I use everyday.
@dennyhenke I hate to break it to you, but you've got Intel ME inside. So - perhaps no full control of your device, sorry. #libreboot #coreboot
New to @elementary ? Or already a fan?
You can now explore it on our systems with the latest version pre-installed.

ThinkPad T580 support added to Libreboot.

Yes.
With love from Hamburg. (I'm in Hamburg, Germany, because I'll be attending #39c3 and also because Hamburg is cool)
EDIT: also, thank you Johann C. Rode for porting this board to coreboot!
@libreleah Fun fact, Hamburg is a very productive city when it comes to #coreboot: In 2009 @stefanreinauer, Ron and I hung out in a hotel lobby, a coffee shop and various other places in Hamburg (as they would have us - the coffee shop eventually pointed all their speakers towards the table we occupied, which was... a message), and hacked on i945 support and also replaced the previous configuration and build system with the Kconfig-based one that is still used today.
We had a great experience at #DebConf25!
We brought our two laptop models and our brand new NUC Box with Dasharo coreboot firmware.
It was great to see how much recognition and interest there was. Between the tech talks and hallway chats, we really enjoyed the spirit of the Debian community.
🙏 Thanks to everyone who visited our stand!
📅 Any recommendations for other FOSS conferences we should join?
