The changes to the Water Act are flying under the radar because of everything else that is happening in Alberta.
But it is very bad legislation and it's being done for some nefarious purpose, I'm sure. Especially since the changes are supported by the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers.
And, of course there are data centres planned for all over the province.
“Bill 7 is not a technical amendment; it is a fundamental shift in how water is controlled, allocated, and transferred in Alberta. By advancing this legislation without First Nation involvement, Alberta is eroding the Treaty relationship and failing to uphold its legal and moral obligations,” says Grand Chief Trevor Mercredi.

Alberta moves to violate people's rights, using a loophole in the Canadian constitution...for the second time in a matter of weeks.
Danielle Smith says the courts should do better otherwise, "they're going to see more legislatures take the action that we did."
Also, she defends the move with a bizarre statement about "protecting kids rights to have babies." Seems like right wing pronatalism bunk - why is it okay for the state to be deciding for individuals that this is the most important thing?

The first strikes weren't legal.
It's time to go full France.
I hear that pumpkins hold gasoline pretty well, and when full, are hard to move.

In the wee small hours of the morning, the Alberta legislature passed a bill that preemptively invoked the notwithstanding clause, ordering striking teachers back to work, and imposing on them a contract they had already rejected. Today, by coincidence, the Senate's Transport and Communications committee began a study of strikes in the transport sector. Since we had two great expert witnesses before us - labour lawyer Paul Champ and business professor Ian Lee - I seized the opportunity to ask what precedent Danielle Smith's bill might set. https://youtu.be/oKSYDrSCx8U?si=ItXTHkQemJOqZLSW #cdnpoli #SenateofCanada #ableg #abpoli #ATA #AirCanada #Alberta #DanielleSmith
