"Brent led a life fully committed to his values and his pleasures; unlike most people, he didn’t see a contradiction between the two." —David Velasco for Harper's https://harpers.org/archive/2025/10/the-good-pervert-david-velasco-brent-sikkema-art-friendship?src=longreads #truecrime #memoir #art
I try to keep #books in every bag I regularly use. In my backpack I always have my Kindle and currently have The Mothman Prophecies and a #truecrime book by the legendary Ann Rule. In my messenger bag I rock when I'm walking sometimes, I keep The Way of Zen by the great Alan Watts. And in my secondary backpack (I own three) I currently have Seven Plays by Sam Shepard. You never know when you've got some time to kill.
A #book that some of you may find interesting
This details the poisoning of a man living in Parker Road, Oratia (West Auckland) in the 1890s. It's a true story. The author has done a lot of research and not only tells the story of what happened and the trial, but also followed the lives of his family afterwards. The intergenerational impact of what had happened really struck me.
