More to the point, though - thank you for an excellent, thoughtful blog post :)
I'm looking for a #NextCloud hosting provider that uses data centers within #Canada or if that can't be had, another country that's not the US. Cloud and More is the only canadian partner listed on nextcloud.com, but from website it seems they're only after business customers. My interest is just for myself and family. What providers would you recommend?

Guten Abend zusammen,
Gerne teilen :)

The work on #EU_OS continues. In the last days, the Proof-of-Concept pages at https://eu-os.eu/poc/ have received a few updates on provisioning, branding and thoughts on user data backups. Open questions and issues are listed at https://gitlab.com/eu-os/eu-os.gitlab.io/-/issues
Please lend us your helping hand, reshare ♻️ and spread the word 🗣️!

2/3 Topics #EU_OS needs help with:
1) What is the best way to backup user data for Linux EU OS users? https://gitlab.com/eu-os/eu-os.gitlab.io/-/issues/46 #borgbackup #btrfsbk #btrfs#nextcloud
2) How can unattended deployment with #foreman look like during pilot stage (thus without reconfiguring the network/DHCP yet)? https://gitlab.com/eu-os/eu-os.gitlab.io/-/issues/39 #foreman
3) How can a modern VPN provide extra security for people in home offices or on business trips? https://gitlab.com/eu-os/eu-os.gitlab.io/-/issues/47 #tailscale #headscale #rosenpass #wireguard #openvpn
Proud of my daughter: "Where's a good place I can upload photos from my various projects where I know they're safe and I can't get locked out or lose access?". This is a 20-year old iPhone user brought up on Google Classroom/Drive, etc. So I run my own servers across various datacentres, do I go for #NextCloud, a #PixelFed instance or just scare her with a place she can scp to?

Tested the latest version of #NextCloud on Debian 13, and it works well. I also see no "AI" bullshit, so presumably that's all turned off by default.
One minor criticism is that it doesn't accept my fediverse handle. I think what's happening here is that it's trying to do some sort of confirmation via the Mastodon API, and #Epicyon doesn't implement the (non-standard) Mastodon API.
WeTransfer just changed their ToS to allow them to train AI on any files you transfer through them.
Don't use there service, especially for work that you don't have the right to relicense to them (e.g., commercial work that's exactly the most likely to create the huge files WeTransfer specializes in).
(ETA: this is already going boom so I'm muting it.)
In my company i see that some customers use #swisstransfer as alternative.
