PSA, the new Android 16 update will surreptitiously reenable fingerprint device unlock even if you had intentionally disabled it before. Depending on where you live and your threat model, this might not be safe! Americans have little protection against law enforcement compelling biometrics unlock. To make matters worse, the fingerprint unlock settings are found in a different part of the security settings UI than the rest of the device unlock settings. If you update to Android 16, make sure your device unlock settings are what you intended.

I'm not a particularly smart designer, but I always thought that consistency was supposed to be the ultimate aspiration - with differences only occurring when justifiable. So I'm still in shock that of all the big software releases this month - #MacOS26, #Android16 - it is #Gnome49 that seems to step forward in this regard.
The Linux platform is not without its problems and limitations, but the team behind #Gnome really deserve massive kudos: https://release.gnome.org/49/

Since GrapheneOS has problems to get the sources of Android 16, I call on all Android OEMs to help the project. The developers behind GrapheneOS are doing a great job and it would be a shame if they could no longer do this in the future.
