View of the coastal area of Redwood National and State Parks this weekend with sun, clouds, amenable tides, and the ongoing evolution of sediment properties and abundance. Here, we can see onshore rocks, a stretch of sandy beach, the green and yellow of the vegetation covering the slopes behind the beach, and a sky that is part cloudy and part blue. Temperatures were cool and a steady wind kept the day even cooler. The Pacific Ocean rolls in on the left. Waves were generally gentle throughout the weekend. The purpose of this image is in part to provide interested viewers with a snapshot of conditions should they be considering a visit to the area. Other resources for visitors include updated web camera images from the National Park Service and forecasts from the National Weather Service. The most important information for visitors is an understanding of the tide, as this area is inaccessible during times of higher tides.

The higher elevation areas in Glacier National Park have a bit of snow, but Lake McDonald (at an elevation of approximately 3150 feet) and the surrounding slopes are free of snow and still showing early fall colors. The sky is blue, the slopes green, and passing clouds are reflected in Lake McDonald this evening.

The Teton Range in Grand Teton National Park today, with a beautiful blue sky above, the grey-green of the sagebrush in the foreground, and the rock faces of the peaks of the Teton Range in the center. These mountains rise to nearly 14,000 feet, showing a hint of white snow here and there, and an occasional shadow from the passing clouds. Also in the center, a line of evergreen and deciduous trees, including aspens, pines, and firs. Beautiful colors and panoramic views from the Mount Washburn Fire Lookout camera last night. The foreground shows a section of the trail system used to access the mountain. Lit by the sun, the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone cuts through the center of the image. In the distance on the right, the Tetons in Grand Teton National Park can just be seen. Blue sky, an arrangement of clouds, green vegetation, sunlit canyon walls, combine to create a wonderful scene from one of the most spectacular sites in Yellowstone National Park.

BBC: A rapidly growing wildfire north-west of the Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona has expanded more than 10 times in size in less than 24 hours, according to a government tracker.

The White Sage Fire, sparked by lightning on 9 July, has scorched roughly 19,100 acres near Jacob Lake, forcing officials to close the park's North Rim and area residents to evacuate.
