Kagi members say it best.

#Kagi #Search

Testimonial from Aryonoco on Hacker News, which reads: "Kagi is like the Google of 2011. Except, better. You can combine a bunch of domains you think are related and create a "lens" to just search them. It comes with a bunch of pre-built lenses, so you can search for academic results, or forum posts or pdfs. You can tell Kagi if a website is good or not, and it will then tailor your results according to your preferences."

@kagihq I would be happy to use your service. Actually I have you browser extension installed on Vivaldi for quite some months now. But the way things go in the US keep me from using it. This collateral damage always hits the wrong ones. But I see no other way than to unplug Trump and his villains currently.

Under this analysis, browsers like @Vivaldi are in a very precarious situation: on the one hand, #VivaldiBrowser is being developed under what is arguably a “web of documents” mindset, and in fact more in general as a “Swiss knife of the Internet”, similarly to classic #OperaBrowser (I've already written about this at length). On the other hand, its reliance on the #Google-controlled #Blink engine that is designed for the “web of apps” cripples it in its efforts:

Switching from Firefox to Vivaldi is easier than you'd think. 😊 One click imports your tabs and browser data. ✅

Your browser does not support the video tag.

Video displays a user navigating to vivaldi.com with their browser, downloading the latest version of the Vivaldi browser and installs it. Then the user navigates through some of the initial steps after opening the browser for the first time, and imports browser data with a single click.

Especially if you're an #indieWeb supporter, you should consider this feature essential, as it's what gives you the ability e.g. to make your #RSS feeds nicely formatted even on browsers that have removed built-in support for them (i.e. basically anything except for #VivaldiBrowser).

Of course, it can be used for more than that. I wrote about this (in Italian) on my website a couple of years ago

@Vivaldi

For some seconds we had the slightly hope that Vivaldi would create a photo sharing social media connected to the Fediverse (using Pixelfed or a new open source similar platform) with great interface design and nice features, like the browser has!

🙏

IMO, it would be too much for a small team that already has a complicated #browser, #sync system, #webmail system, #blogging system and #MastodonInstance to maintain :)
