To be clear this is a security flaw that WinRAR patched in July last year.
Why is it a problem now? Because WinRAR, like 7-Zip does not provide autoupdate. 😢
I actually made a bot to start tracking these releases @archivetoolstracker at the start of the year (it has yet to post because neither have updated yet in 2026).
If you use either of these follow it or its RSS feed so that you know when to update.

I made a small thing. Just a little automated masto account @archivetoolstracker to track updates to 7-Zip and RAR (WinRAR).
Why!? 🤔 These types of archiving tools are very handy but have been known to have security issues (both had exploits last year). Plus they don't always provide automatic update mechanisms on most platforms. 😉
It should be a very low volume of posts (maybe 5 a year? 🤷). Follow and click 🔔 for an actual notification. Or just follow via RSS. 😉

Décompressé: 3,18 Go
7z "ultra" (-mx=9) : 1,33 Go
7z avec mes réglages : 0,53 Go
(Et zpaq -m4 fait un peu mieux : 0,49 Go)
Bien sûr c'est un exemple qui marche bien, le gain ne sera pas forcément aussi bon sur d'autres données.

Comme il m'a été demandé, voici les paramètres que j'utilise désormais pour obtenir la meilleure compression avec 7-Zip.
Inconvénient :
- on passe en mono-thread (la compression prend beaucoup plus de temps ; la décompression sera un peu moins rapide).
- cela consomme plus de RAM (10 Go à la compression, 1 Go à la décompression).
1 Go pour la décompression ne me semble pas déraisonnable pour les machines de nos jours.
