i'm moving my stuff off GitHub because i'm sick of Microsoft's shit. today's task is slurp.

the official project home page has been https://catgirl.codes/slurp for a bit, but now that's also the package URL as far as Go is concerned. this will be a breaking change for anyone who depended on slurp internals, which i hope is nobody. there's some sort of package renaming directive you can use in go.mod if you did.

the public Git repo and issue tracker are now on Codeberg: https://codeberg.org/vyr/slurp

if you can, please donate to Codeberg. i just did (again). they're a great option for open source devs like me who aren't SREs and don't want the overhead of self-hosting all that stuff, and running a service like that isn't free.

I have finally completed my migration of all of my picture posts to my GoToSocial instance. The first post goes all the way back to 2012 when I created an Instagram account which I migrated to Pixelfed years later. But frustrated with some aspects of Pixelfed at the time I bounced around servers and platforms till I finally bit the bullet and created a personal instance. Unfortunately, there were many hurdles to combining my multiple accounts into one place until I found the right combination of tools: GoToSocial, Posty, and slurp.

After multiple successful archive imports, garbage collection for the imported posts I didn’t wish to save, and a few outstanding account closures; I was down to a few hundred Pixelfed posts that wouldn’t import via that tool chain because of the existing at-mentions and slurp’s strict handling of these to prevent spam. I finally took the time to work through the pixelfed-statuses.json with a little regex to invalidate the existing at-mentions searching on (?<!\/)@ and replacing with ඞ. It looks a little awkward, but this helped maintain the context of the old Instagram mentions with @cbhaugen becoming ඞcbhaugen. I tried a number of other replacements, but found that this one worked consistently and still looked like the at-sign. Unfortunately, I didn’t discover the ＠ (Full-width Commercial At / U+FF20) and ﹫ (Small Commercial At / U+FE6B) til after completing the import. So if you’re in a similar predicament you may try those instead of ඞ (Sinhala Letter Kantaja Naasikyaya / U+0D9E).

my Fediverse post migration tool slurp can now import from Bluesky!

i'm looking for beta testers who would like to give it a try, ideally on a throwaway Fedi server like a GTS testrig.

caveats:

• currently doesn't check Bluesky's advisory "Discourage apps from showing my account to logged-out users" profile flag: imported Bluesky posts will have public visibility on Fedi
• doesn't attempt to translate Bluesky thread gates to GTS interaction policies, because i need to catch up on both first
• video alt text is preserved but captions are not, because Bluesky's per-language VTT sidecar caption files would need to be converted and inlined for Fedi servers expecting one file per video
• doesn't handle quote posts, because GTS doesn't have quote posts

Anyway, thanks to #slurp, the second #GoToSocial account looks like this.

So… the #slurp software did a wonderful job moving my pictures from the Pixelfed instance to the new GoToSocial one!

But obviously, that fucking pile of shit (yeah Pixelfed, you) refused to migrate the account and notify the followers. Also tested on a public Pixelfed instance I have a account on. And it also fails.

I think I probably hate Pixelfed as much as I hate Confluence.

What it looks like to move your Mastodon account to #GoToSocial on #OpenBSD from a #Victoriametrics + #Grafana point of view.
