«We spoke online that day for two hours. His first concern was what was happening with some of the NSA documents that, with his consent, Poitras had talked about to a Washington Post reporter, Barton Gellman.
...
Rather than report the story quickly and aggressively, the Washington Post had assembled a large team of lawyers who were making all kinds of demands
and issuing all sorts of dire warnings.»

murdered journalist #JamalKhashoggi must be turning in his grave
#F35 many major parts are made outside the US. The front undercarriage (major part) used to be made in #turkiye but they lost the contract
Speaking of #Khashoggi, his GF (or wife?)
#EdwardSnowden said that the software, created by #NSOGroup Technologies, was used to help track Khashoggi, gain information from his and her phones

Today is the 10 year anniversary of #CITIZENFOUR, the out-in-theaters release in the United States was 2014 October 24
if you've never seen it, i highly recommend it! much of the government surveillance that it highlights are either still in practice or are being done by other governments all around the world
here are some old photos i made back on the opening night at SIFF Cinema in Seattle

"Twelve years ago today, Edward Snowden — a longtime Freedom of the Press Foundation (FPF) board member — blew the whistle to journalists on global mass surveillance programs, changing the way we think about the relationship between privacy and national security.
The 2013 revelations take on added urgency as the Trump administration reportedly attempts to circumvent existing privacy guardrails to build a “master database” containing the most sensitive information the government holds on any given individual.
Such a database, combined with the government’s sprawling surveillance authorities, would grant the administration an unprecedented view into our private lives and provide it more opportunities to crack down on dissent.
It’s all the more reason to revisit what abuses the Snowden disclosures helped us mitigate, and which still urgently need fixing.
Here are some of the top impacts the disclosures had. Since it’s the 12th anniversary, we’ll list 12 of them."
