Is there a Snow Angels registry in #Kitchener? Something like: https://snowangelscanada.ca but localized.... the city has a recognition program but that's not quite what I am looking for...
Finished the first #SKA Sock Knitters 🧶 Anonymous challenge of 2026. 2nd is already started.
AND - The second session of my Sock School starts on Sunday if anyone in #waterlooregion might still have cold feet. There's still room around the project table at the Flying Squirrel.
Booyah!
Got checked by the transit cops both coming and going today, but my lunch meetup was perfectly timed to be heading home just before my outbound ride time was up. Same kids with the scanners both ways.
FWIW, #waterlooregion , the GRTpay app really maximizes your paid ride window. You don’t activate your 120 minute ticket until just as you step on the ride. No waiting 10 minutes after tapping on at the platform.
Holy cow. #waterlooregion #kwawesome please be careful and stay home if you can today.
ALL schools, primary through postsecondary are closed, and I've seen some people grousing about that and "it's not that bad".
Well, two vehicles this morning have launched right off the 7/8 flyover onto King St. below. 1 fatality, one serious injury.
Hey #kwawesom #waterlooregion peeps ... do I know anyone out there on the timelines who knows stuff about the old Krug factory on Breithaupt and Ahrens sts? I have a lightning-project exercise with a student group to "reimagine" buildings in an adaptive reuse/urban development exercise.
It's not required, but would be cool if I could add a visit to the building to our proposal. Already dug up the history and some municipal heritage planning docs.
It's been brought to my attention that while #BuyNothing groups are pretty useful, they tend to exist mainly on Facebook. It'd be nice to have such a group for #WaterlooRegion here on the fedi as well.
I'd be happy to set one up, but if there's one that already exists, I'd rather use that than start from scratch. Is anyone aware of such a group here?

Sitting in on Waterloo Region Community Energy ‘s annual forum, Shaping Our Energy Secure Future.
Had no idea how many initiatives are already rolling on decarbonized and sustainable energy in #waterlooregion . Which is probably another tell as to how neglected the residential condo sector is when it comes to access to green building projects. Why are property managers not all over this?
Hi! Sorry, no, it was home life being a bit off the rails and interrupting school and extracurricular life.
I've pencilled in the december meeting, we'll see!
The December @kwlug meeting should be good: @uxmark is presenting the @CyclingGuide!

Argh, nope, won't be out after all tonight.
wasn't planning on Anaconda Navigator blowing its own brains out just when I needed to get another course module submitted. 😵💫
I had fully planned on being at the @kwlug meeting tonight, but @radiowaterloo.ca is having its Fall Fundraiser, and some bright spark had the idea of doing an On-Air Fundraiser Special tonight, so I'll be at the studio at 8pm making a pitch for donations and playing some local #KWcontent music.
Oh, very cool, thank you - I've been aware of @kwlug forever, just ... haven't had bandwidth! There are so many connections to make and manage in this ecosystem. 😆
If you find some bandwidth today, there's a @kwlug meeting tonight at 7:00pm, in DC 1568 at Davis Centre Library at the University of Waterloo. Also online at https://webconference.kwlug.org/room/kwlug Everybody, everywhere is invited!
Details for tonight's meeting is at https://kwlug.org/node/1422
@moderation Question for mods & admins out there - does anyone host their own <whatever> as a sandbox/playground, and what's your architecture for doing this? I want few and invitation-only collaborators to multiple AP-social web applications that we can experiment with as mods/admins as we design and refine community proposals.
Primary needs are:
- Accessible outside the walls of my living room/relatively stable (eg, doesn't go out if the power does, OTOH, I'm making no uptime promises .. 1/?
There used to be a number of webhosts in datacentres located in Waterloo Region. Some have consolidated, some have shut down, but there are at least a couple left, used by @kwlug, one for their webhost and one for their BigBlueButton server.
Since you want to do F/LOSS hosting anyway, you could join the KWLUG mailing list ask the question there. They're a pretty knowledgeable crowd.
In Waterloo Region last week, there were threats of violence made against multiple 2SLGBTQIA+ events, at least some of which ended of being cancelled over safety concerns.
Undeterred by this hate, the Waterloo Region 2SLGBTQIA+ community is holding a Public Pride Dance Party! It's on Monday and starts at 5:30 at Waterloo Town Square.
Here are details, gleaned from Spectrum's account on another social media platform:
"Come out and show your love and support for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community with a public dance party. This event will be a family-friendly expression of joy. Come with your brightest colours on, and ready to move. When hate gets loud, we get louder!”
I’m guessing that allies would be welcome! 😀❤️🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️

GUELPH, KW, NEARBY: a fedi-friend is looking for some in-person support around negotiating a move in the coming month. Needs muscle but also personal mgmt assistance.
If you are, or know of, a PSW, personal assistant, home organizer type who has sufficient time, spoons to share - please reach out.
If you live in Waterloo Region, please remember to provide feedback for the Rockway-Fairway project. This important link for our city connects an ION stop, the mall, schools, community centre, and the Rockway Gardens.

And, FYI, here is what we have to say about it:
The survey closes this Sunday, so please complete it soon!

Today my multiple and discoordinated calendars saved me, for I have recursively subscribed to enough of them that I didn’t miss this #multisolving session RIGHT IN MY NEIGHBOURHOOD!
Welcome to #waterlooregion @bethsawin, virtual or otherwise, you seem to have connected a network here.
Today’s court ruling on bike lane legislation in Ontario is important in Waterloo Region as well. City of Waterloo Mayor Dorothy McCabe shares her thoughts:
"Mayor McCabe, who is also a regional councillor, said for years the region has had a policy in place that says when regional roads are redeveloped, pedestrian-friendly sidewalks and separated bike lanes will be added. She said after today’s ruling, there’s no reason to take a different approach. ‘The province has an important jurisdiction. The federal government has an important jurisdiction. And municipal parties have important jurisdictional responsibilities. And I think we collaborate when we need to, but we know our communities best. And I think the court is reaffirming that. So I’m pleased to see that,’ she told CTV News.”
