I never tire listening to #JamesBaldwin. A great extract 👇🏽 of this monumental debate at #Cambridge Uni (in full https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Tek9h3a5wQ0), highlighting what is sadly still true: a lot of what is seen as #progress in the West, including the #AmericanDream has been achieved at the expense of the #Black people ( #BIPOC at large). Until we collectively acknowledge where this comfort comes from, we can't move past the myth of #MAGA & other #fascist fancy. As #BLM wisely says: no #justice, no #peace.
On this day in 1965, James Baldwin participated in a nationally televised debate against archconservative William Buckley on the topic of segregation.
The debate is considered a pivotal moment in the Civil Rights movement.

I think one of the funniest things about Fedi is that you have an above average chance of interacting with someone who's an actual expert in something. Just did an inadvertent Bensplain to someone who's clearly an expert in the field I referenced. Oh you've probably never *heard* of this thing. What's that - you *invented* it? Oh sorry.
@TheBreadmonkey That's a hazard of being an elected politician in #Cambridge
Whatever you decide, on whatever subject, there's a fair chance that there's a world class expert on that topic amongst your constituents who's going to tell you how you've got it wrong.
Tiny Mastodon Tip About Globalisation 🌍
On Mastodon, there isn't an algorithm to restrict your reach to your own country or region when you post.
Additionally, many people post in English, even when it's not their native language.
If you post a comment or question
that is related to a specific region of the world, please specify which one, and don't assume people worldwide will know this acronym or reference.
You will have a better chance to
get the answers you seek, and more boosts from people living in different regions of the world.
Also consider adding a hashtag relevant to the country or region you are posting about.
Keep in mind the Fediverse is global! 🌏🌍🌎✨
@Em0nM4stodon Yeah. I follow #Cambridge because I live there but I keep seeing posts about somewhere in the USA ...
@TimWardCam Yup, that's the one. Going to the IoT SF conference, and it's nice to hop off in the middle of London about 15 minutes walk from the venue.
@david_chisnall Also #Cambridge to Gatwick direct. No lugging suitcases around the tube any more.
Hmm, I have to take a train on the Brighton Line and I don't even have a handbag!
@david_chisnall I like that you can now travel between Brighton and #Cambridge without changing trains. (Or at least could in the before times, when I used to use public transport.)

One of the cool donation premiums you can choose from is the overdyed crew neck sweatshirt with a tonal green print. It features a design by station member Mark Robinson, with the WMBR logo on the front, and "The Great 88.1" on the back. And it can be yours for an $88.10 pledge.

That's why companies - like Snapchat - are insatiably horny to get you to switch from using websites to using apps.
Ultimately, I just don't think neoliberal economists believe in what they're selling. They don't want a market of "demand-signals" that can be used to guide allocations. They just want to help the greediest, worst people on earth screw you as hard as they can, all day long.
And then blame *you* for it.
