I saw one of these tiny cute birds at a local bus stop earlier. It was very tame and seemed to have learnt to scavenge little bits left by humans. Anyone have idea what it was? I'm in SE England.

Why Are London’s Iconic Sparrows Disappearing?
"London’s house sparrow population has declined by an astonishing 71% over just 24 years, and a new study suggests that avian malaria may be the cause."

Are there any #ornithologists ? I have a dumb question about sparrows (both house sparrow and eurasian tree sparrow).
Near 3 days ago, I saw a lot of sparrows on the streets. Also a lot of them flew to my window to eat some seeds. Despite the air temperature was near 0°C.
But suddenly, after one night all sparrows are disappeared from the streets — I see no one, only another species: crows, wagtails and tits.
First, I thought that all sparrows are migrated somewhere. But from Wikipedia I learned that they may migrate only to nearby rural areas to eat some insects, if there are no food in the city. But (again) in my district are enough bird feeders with food.
So I really have a question — where (and why) are all the sparrows flew?
I live at the outskirts of city with a big count of trees and a small forest nearby, so looks like here should be good conditions for birds

Four distinct lineages of bird survived the Cretaceous–Paleogene extinction event 66 million years ago, giving rise to ostriches and relatives (Palaeognathae), waterfowl (Anseriformes), ground-living fowl (Galliformes), and "modern birds" (Neoaves).

Calling all bird lovers, we've been hearing this unusual bird call over the last few weeks here in Ghent, Belgium. The call is made up of two parts and sounds kinda tropical and is usually heard in the evenings and repeats a few times. Apps like Merlin Bird Id don't know either. #birds #ornithology #wildlife
