A federal judge in San Francisco on Tuesday indefinitely barred the #Trump administration from firing #FederalWorkers during the government #shutdown.

US District Judge Susan Illston granted a preliminary injunction [ #PI] that bars the firings while a lawsuit challenging them plays out. She had previously issued a temporary restraining order [ #TRO] against the job cuts that was set to expire Wednesday.

Illston has said she believes the evidence will ultimately show the #MassFirings were #illegal & in excess of authority.

The #Trump admin has slashed #jobs in #education, #health & other areas it says are favored by #Democrats. The admin has also said it will not tap roughly $5 billion in contingency funds to keep benefits through #SNAP flowing into November.

The American Federation of Government Employees #AFGE & other #labor #unions have sued to stop the “reductions in force” #MassLayoffs, saying the firings were an #AbuseOfPower designed to punish #FederalWorkers & pressure #Congress.

Lawyers for the government claim the district court does not have the authority to hear personnel challenges [which is bullshit].

The #shutdown is the first since Jan 2019, & the 4th of #Trump’s 2 terms. Admin ofcls this time, though, have signaled plans to use the closed agencies as a way to vastly reshape the #FederalGovernment & consolidate #power under the presidency.
#OMB dir #RussVought ordered agencies to consider #MassFirings rather than #furloughs. His instructions to agencies include guidance on rewriting #regulations surrounding federal #grants & challenging #Congress’s constitutional #power over spending.

~750k #FederalWorkers are expected to be furloughed, & some fired by the #Trump admin. Many offices will be shuttered, perhaps permanently, as Trump vows to “do things that are irreversible, that are bad” as #retribution. His #deportation agenda is expected to run full speed ahead, while #education, #environmental & other #services sputter. The economic fallout is expected to ripple nationwide.

#Federal labor #unions targeted in the EOs have repeatedly sued the #Trump admin, & in some cases forced the admin to temporarily pause Trump’s efforts to shrink the federal work force & reshape the government. The American Federation of Government Employees [#AFGE] has filed more than a dozen lawsuits related to the federal work force. The White House has likened this to a declaration of “war.”

So far, 9 agencies have terminated #union contracts that covered >445k #FederalWorkers from the #EPA, US #CoastGuard, #FEMA, #GSA, the Departments of #HHS, #Agriculture & #VeteransAffairs, & parts of #ICE & #Citizenship & #Immigration Services.

“This is literally the largest act of union busting in American history,” said Mike Podhorzer, a former political director of the #AFLCIO. “There’s not another time when that many people lost their union.”

I've seen the past exonerative tense before, but the present continuous exonerative tense is special!

"Black women's unemployment is rising."🤡

All by itself? Magically?

The entire US, Dem and GOP, is going on close to 24 months straight of being publicly and loudly anti-civil rights (anti-DEI).

"Black women are more likely to work in the departments targeted by DOGE."

is like saying,

"Harbor seals are more likely to be found swimming in the water that happens to be rushing into a great white shark's rapidly opening mouth."🤡

Dudes have been open and vocal about their desire to drive Black women out of leadership positions in the federal government, higher education, and private industry. That's their goal.

And yet, we still talk about these outcomes as if they're just an unfortunate side effect of generalized downturns.
