It's an abnormally warm January day here, but a piece of my soul is stuck in a place like this.
Nestled in the snow-covered mountains of Tochigi Prefecture, the small hamlet of Hataori in Shiobara is engulfed in a blizzard. No, I don't want a Blizzard here, but to be so nestled and hunkered down in a warm and safe place.
This is today's #AntiAIArtwork.
Hasui Kawase spent part of his childhood here and later returned during his wartime evacuation, capturing the harshness and quiet beauty of this familiar landscape. Though the heavy snowfall obscures much of the view, the warm glow spilling from the village windows offers a tender sense of refuge amid the storm. Following the disruption of the Pacific War, Hasui resumed creating landscapes, a practice he continued until his death in 1957. Two versions of this work exist: one dominated by cool blue tones and another rendered in rich blacks and purples.
Enjoy!
