As expected, on some well known news sites my latest blog post also drew some interesting comments, offering a few things to think about. On average, the readers who replied see "Linux" as the opposite of macOS or Windows, basically an anti something. Not because of its strengths, but because of the flaws they associate with its "competitors". They also focus entirely on the desktop world, which I can understand.

Many of them also confuse popularity with quality. The fact that other operating systems such as the BSDs or illumos are less widespread leads them to assume they are less "interesting". That is an ideological contradiction, because by the same logic Windows and macOS would be far superior to everything else simply because they dominate an enormous share of desktop systems.

But not all hope is lost. There’s still the red pill — Linux. It’s not perfect, but it’s free, open, and community-driven. No forced logins, no corporate backdoors, no hidden surveillance. Just software built by people, for people. Switching to Linux isn’t rebellion for rebellion’s sake. It’s a vote — for transparency, for sustainability, for democracy. My analytics for MarkWrites.io show a surge of Windows NT visits. Over the past 24 hours it says 43% of my visitors are using that system.

That can’t be right. I thought maybe it was bots, but I’m not seeing an influx of those. And I have a huge bot blocking list as well.

Any ideas? Has anyone else seen this?

2/1 Polemisch ausgedrückt: Ein Rechenprogramm zur Simulation um zehntausende Verbindungen zu testen/matchen ist nicht innovativ und schon gar nichts neues.
Auch eine "Skalierung" bringt wenig wenn "die Politik" eine Strategie des weiter so verfolgt. Das war schon bei der Verkehrsplanung #NochEineSpurMehr ...kontraproduktiv.
Und so lange keine europäische Lösung #Server #Opensource #OS wenigstens angestrebt wird ist das eh nur politisches Theater.😒

We all build our own prison ...

First, they gave us a window. It wasn't perfect, but it made life easier. This window was then improved and made more convenient. This quality, but also mafia-like practices, allowed them to create a #monopoly. Ultimately, this led to a decline in quality and customers being forced to accept #surveillance, subscriptions, #AI, and #cloud services. In the end, the window was barred and made smaller.

But for those who didn't get too comfortable behind the window, a penguin named TUX has a #jailbreak ready. Floss is a jailbreak that allows you to always get free updates and continue to use old hardware. This helps the environment and your wallet. But #BigTech doesn't want you to know about it and wants to keep you in #prison and locked in dependency.

Ultimately, everyone must decide for themselves whether #freedom is more important to them than finding reasons to remain in prison of their own free will.
