Remember back in the day when I talked about SailNavSim? For some reason I started playing it again last week and lo and behold, the guy who runs the game has opened an around-the-world race starting next Sunday. Luckily without the anxiety-inducing “celestial navigation” mode, so hey, why not join the race? It’s a pretty fun browser game, easy to learn, difficult to master and with low time commitment. (unless you really want to get into it)

Read The Unlikely Voyage of Jack de Crow, which was entertaining and heartwarming, but also the author was an idiot.
Aaahh #sailing
Today my partner and I hopped into the dinghy, and I rowed us from the sailboat out to a little island we saw in the distance. It turned out that the whole tiny island was surrounded by oysters beds!
We wandered the whole place, stepping carefully and taking lots of photos. Besides the oysters, we found lots of other sealife (starfish, fish fish, hermit crabs, crab crabs, sea anemones, seagulls, clams, limpets, barnacles, and several species of snail).

In case you are into sailing or sail boats small, large or very large, new or old, Sail Amsterdam 2025 starts today.
Normally held every 5 years, because of Covid last edition got cancelled, so Sail is back after a 10 year period. This year it also coincides with the 750th anniversary of the city of Amsterdam, so all it set for a very special edition.

This might be a slightly odd request but this is the fediverse after all…
Does anyone have a sextant I can borrow?
I want to have some navigation-related activities for a workshop later in the month and this would be fun.
We now have a rigging-suspended wind generator on our sailboat.
I released the CAD files for the bracket in https://bergie.iki.fi/blog/rigging-suspended-wind-generator/

Aaahhh. #sailing into the wind, flat water, nice weather. The boat runs faster than it's polars, with a jib/G3 instead of a genoa/G1. Love sailing with a jib

Time for a new #introduction!
I'm a former #geographer & #mapmaker, now working on a #PhD project in digital #archaeology, between #Prehistory and #openSource #geospatial.
I used to work as an #artist, I'm into #sailing (I was #livingAboard during a few years) and #musicMaking is my happy place. I'm also a happy #dad and I'm fluent in fr, en & es.
Finally, I'm the proud admin of https://Mapstodon.space, a great #Mastodon instance dedicated to maps — & full of decent and interesting people!
