This feller just descended from the ceiling on a ninja rope right in front of me, even stopping dramatically midway. And now it's staring me down on my desk.

I don't mind spiders in the house, but this one is nearly the size of the plughole!

i had to break out the fancy camera to get a night shot but here is ms. window orbweaver.

approx. 12-15mm body length, maybe?

A bridge spider (Larinioides sclopetarius) just below the hub of her web, feeding on a small glistening lump that was once a fly. She is grey-brown with a damask-like leaf-shaped pattern on the top of her abdomen and a white-bordered carapace. The image is a bit washed out because it was taken with flash at night through a window.

Window orbweaver update: all quiet tonight. I felt bad for her meagre haul, so earlier today I captured a greenbottle fly, then later when she came out I carefully removed the window-screen and held the fly against the web with tweezers until she sensed and captured it. She has spent the past few hours feeding on it.

a wolf spider about the size of a loonie (27mm or 1”) made its nest inside of our living room window. i was amazed by how hairy it was.

The broad, dense canopies of tansy flowers (Tanasetum) are a perfect home for small jumping spiders like this juvenile bold jumper (Phidippus audax)!

The jumping spider's abdomen, seen between tansy flower heads. It has both matte and shiny black patches and smaller white markings.

Yesterday I was going up to a park bench to lock my bike to it when I saw the most enormous bold jumping spider (Phidippus audax) poking her head out from between two slats. She had a spacious silk retreat with a well-wrapped egg sac. She was shy, but I gradually lured her out by lightly dragging a blade of grass across one opening of the retreat, and she stalked and pounced on it, like a cat.

I find that contrary to their name bold jumpers are very shy at first, but once they've gotten used to you they are unafraid and will climb all over you. Unfortunately I didn't have time to properly make friends with this spider.
