now that people are leaving TikTok and losing their follower count:
social media is a reputation bank. your reputation accrues over time, and you reap the benefits. Except, currently banks DGAF about your savings.
before internet, reputation was a local currency. now, it's a global one. it needs rules and regulations.
if we stop deriding influencers, we can see they need some unionizing, since reputation banks are abusing their position.
Yes, influencers should be regulated (China did it recently, hopefully Brazil does something similar) but both in obligations *and* rights.
We still treat follower count as unimportant, immature, but for some it's their livelihood. Shaming them for their pain is choosing the side of the new feudal class that depend on influencers to grow.
