I'm about to start a multi year home renovation and in the past would have thought, let's use my knowledge and love of tech to enhance this period home while preserving its character.
Now that #privacy is something I have to fight to retain and smart / #IoT devices are being used to attack everyone's privacy and autonomy, the idea of #HomeAssistant etc turns me off.

I’ll take a 1960s Roper refrigerator over this overpriced, tech-ridden garbage. The sales guy approached me as I was laughing at it and mentioned Samsung has decided to start running ads on them. Folks who fell for the scam can now have ads magically appear in their kitchens.

I like the idea of home automation where it might simplify or enhance my activities etc. But I'm wondering how folk choose smart / #IoT devices that can't fuck you over, as almost every commercial offering is determined to do. So I have zero smart devices other than my phone and laptop.
Any comments #HomeAssistant fans?
