Operation Southern Spear(ed)
from @katzonearth [he doesn't post here, mostly only on his Substack-hosted blog sadly]

> While Americans have spent the last 24 hours justifiably focused on Trump's exposure in the #epsteinFiles, the president has been increasingly engaged in another dangerous flirtation: with yet another war. The supercarrier USS Gerald R. Ford and its strike group are nearing Venezuela, capping off the most significant U.S. military escalation in Latin America since the 1994 U.S. invasion of Haiti. Venezuelan President Nicolás #Maduro has mobilized an estimated 200,000 troops in hopes of staving off regime change. Trump, meanwhile, keeps treating the #Caribbean as his personal shooting gallery, with the death toll from missile strikes on civilian boats he accuses (without offering evidence) of drug smuggling now reaching eighty.

Not just the hey please stop talking about Epstein Files. It's also such an astonishingly major coincidence! that at least three of the countries where Don has begun or is clearly threatening to start wars, all using concocted false pretexts - #Venezuela, #Nigeria, and #Iran - are ALL OIL EXPORTERS.

Please be very aware that the emerging capitulation by Senate Democrats over the #republicanShutdown maintains the current plan to eliminate medical care for millions of Americans first in December of this year when the state-administered Affordable Care budgeted programs are set to expire without a renewal action, or right after the midterm elections next fall, when Medicaid itself (whatever it's called in your state) will cease to be funded under the new federal budget. Combined with approved, huge, doubledigit-percentage increases to private healthcare premiums, most Americans and every community will be directly affected, and the national economy isn't likely to collapse; it is certain to do so. Hospitals will be closing. If you're not okay with it then get on the phone now, seriously.

Senate hopes for shutdown breakthrough Sunday

Senators believe enough Democrats are ready to reopen the government. The White House isn’t standing in the way of an emerging deal.

👉 "When capitalism first showed up it delivered plenty of new things which people had a need and a desire for that weren’t available under previous systems like feudalism. The greatly increased material abundance and explosions of scientific and technological innovation ushered in with the dawn of capitalism caused human quality of life to improve by leaps and bounds.

But now we’re at a point where that just isn’t happening anymore. Things have stagnated, and we’re starting to backslide. People are getting dumber, sicker, lonelier, and more and more miserable. And the profit-driven systems we live under have no answers, besides throwing increasingly shitbrained technology at us so we can distract ourselves from how fucked up everything has gotten.

We are being driven into dystopia and annihilation by systems of our own making. We’re meant to be the smartest species on earth, but we locked ourselves in our invention — a self-reinforcing labor camp that makes us miserable — and then we get all huffy when people dare to question if it’s the only way of doing things. Literally every other species is smarter than us. Amoebas are having a better time of it.

This will change when humanity replaces capitalism with something better, in the same way we replaced feudalism with the superior system of capitalism. I don’t know what that system is going to look like, but it’s going to have to involve a move from a model that is driven by competition to one that is driven by collaboration." 👈

Commons and the metaphor of “grow a backbone”

With the tyranny of the structureless path, every attempt to share the commons decays into a fog of personalities, cliques, and unspoken power. What needs composting here is that, at best, you end up with a smiling violent man as the backstop of governance.

Without mediating structures, what emerges is not freedom but hidden hierarchy. “Smiling violence” - the agreeable man (or clique) who insists they’re just holding things together - quietly blocks challenge, manipulates process, and […]

Talking about trust and power in networks

A. on the subject of “security” we have a #open policy of not trusting ANY client server security at all, so this should only be done #4opens as far as possible and having limited trust in #p2p security, even though we use this, because of the insecurity of the undelighting syteams it runs on, mostly old outdated phones, built as blobs by #dotcons this simple approach gets round much of the current thinking of technical “security” ie. the is almost non at a normal use level and little real […]

“The modern-day system of colonialism and sharecropping being constructed by the new East India Company that is Silicon Valley isn’t uncouth or stupid enough to put people in physical shackles. It doesn’t want to own your body, it is content with owning your simulation. And yet, as we have already seen, the more data they have about you – the higher the fidelity of your simulation – the closer they are to owning you.

…

If this doesn’t sound like democracy, it is because it is not. Surveillance Capitalism isn’t compatible with democracy.

The system we live in today can best be described as a corporatocracy; a feudalism of corporations.

Ours is a neo-colonial age of multinational monopolies.

A digital imperialism, if you will.”

The Fediverse is a step

Most people don't have a clue what I am talking about, so let's do a brief breakdown of the core structural problems of centralized platforms and how they warp all our social interactions. And with this we need to highlight how this ties directly into the #geekproblem, #4opens, and the broader issues of #dotcons and digital feudalism. Key issues:

Centralization breeds #feudalism. One big virtual server means a few people have all the power while the rest are serfs.

“Ease of use” is […]
