Whew. Biggest donation to date!
15 upcycled Dell Latitudes with 10th gen i7, 16 gigs of ram, and NVMe drives.
We partnered with a local program that helps families with Christmas presents, and they always want laptops.
This year, The Computer Upcycle Project was able to deliver.
Freaking love this work!
Believe it or not, this is a room full of new #linux users!
Tonight, we gave away 10 perfectly good laptops that were headed for the dump because they can't #windows11
And instead, they got loaded up with #nixbook and we gave them away to members of this community, along with a live demo, class and some Q&A.
SUPER non technical people, that had zero issues navigating and using these laptops.
HUGE WIN!

Hard to believe this gorgeous 27" iMac, with a 6 core i5-8500, 16 gigs of ram and a solid state drive was on its way to the dump.
Apparently, it's not "good enough" to run the new MacOS, so it was discarded.
Thankfully, #linux is here to save the day and make this a perfect computer for someone that will last YEARS into the future.
We had an event last night at a low income housing community here in Olympia. We brought some Nixbooks, gave them away and showed people how to use them.
These people are NOT technical and still all said that Nixbook was far easier to use than any other computer they had used in the past.
All these laptops were headed for the scrapyard, but now thanks to Linux are out there changing peoples lives. :)

Omg this windows 8 era HP pro book...
Ability to take the bottom cover off with no tools, easy access to ram, wifi and hard drive. And even captive spring loaded screws in the hard drive caddy.
Look what they took from us!!

Starting to plan out my 2026 #linux talks. Mostly around #nixbook and the work I've been doing upcycling computers and giving them away.
Which of these catches your attention and makes you wanna know more about a talk?
“From E-Waste to Empowerment: The Story of Nixbook OS”
“Linux for Good: How I Turned Discarded Computers into Digital Lifelines”
“Making Linux Invisible (In a Good Way): Nixbook OS for Non-Tech Users”
“The Green Side of Linux: Using NixOS to Fight E-Waste”

Another call out for help in the #Linux and #nixos community!
We REALLY want to get the #nixbook installer to be able to install #flatpak during (or right after) the calamares installation.
Currently its installing on first boot of nixbook, but it's janky, and causing some downstream issues.
I FEEL LIKE this should be fixable.
Again, the issue is that we want to install a handful of flatpaks after the nixos build, but it gets cranky with no DBUS.
