Google is working on an Android-based operating system for PCs code-named Aluminum OS. Expected to replace ChromeOS eventually, it's unlikely to be widely available until 2028 and since not all Chromebooks support the new OS, ChromeOS will be supported through 2033. https://www.theverge.com/tech/869659/aluminium-why-googles-android-for-pc-launch-may-be-messy-and-controversial #ChromeOS #AluminumOS #Google #Chromebooks
Many times during my career, I have heard that #Linux has no chance on the #desktop unless some corporation picks it up and prepares it for the masses. #ChromeOS was given as an example.
I think it is safe to say today that all those small Linux vendors and communities have beaten #Google with its Chrome OS.

Google plans to merge Android and ChromeOS as part of an effort to better compete in the PC market with Android-powered PCs. A recent job listing refers to the combined OS by the code-name "Aluminium." https://www.androidauthority.com/aluminium-os-android-for-pcs-3619092/ #AluminiumOS #ChromeOS #Android #AndroidPCs #Google

I was reading a blog post by #fdroid about the requirements for signed packages: https://f-droid.org/2025/09/29/google-developer-registration-decree.html
I think this will be more interesting in the coming years because more people are foregoing using a desktop or laptop and doing everything on a tablet or phone. Even #ChromeOS will soon be replaced with something #Android based. The demand for Android version of apps have never been higher and the inability to use F-Droid on regular Android devices will have lasting effects.

Google is working on a "Handoff" feature for Android that will let you sync notifications, access mobile files and run phone apps on a Chromebook (or pick up on your phone where you left off on Chromebook), but only after Google rebases ChromeOS on Android. https://www.androidauthority.com/how-android-handoff-will-work-3601801/ #Handoff #ChromeOS #Android
Details are still vague, but Google's Rick Osterloh essentially confirmed that it's developing Android for laptop & desktop PCs, possibly as an end result of merging Android and ChromeOS. https://www.androidauthority.com/google-android-on-pc-qualcomm-snapdragon-summit-3600612/ #AndroidOnPC #OperatingSystems #Android #ChromeOS #Google
Is it used as a part of #ChromeOS ?
