UpScrolled was launched in June 2025 by Recursive Methods Pty Ltd. It was founded by Issam Hijazi, a Palestinian-Australian app developer and is backed by the Tech for #Palestine incubator. It’s up to a million downloads as of data this week. Privacy policy seems in line with this type of app. I never used TT, so I can’t speak to the functionality comparables, but hey, it’s not run by a Zionist billionaire and his buddies in the #IDF. So, ya know, that’s better.

What are the Fedi's opinions on #UpScrolled?
I see in it a fledgling social media platform that was created for a specific purpose, to give Palestinians a platform where they would not be censored, that is currently working hard with a small development team to expand that initial goal, squash bugs and add missing features.

I deleted #UpScrolled in the end. I couldn’t escape the AI and porn in every category. It’s also so politically charged so that it made me question how long it would take till I ended up on a watchlist for scrolling past these posts… And the AI lolicon content that was taking over unrelated tags were abysmal. The platform prides itself with unfiltered, uncensored content, but if underage people decide to follow the trend to move there, this is the kind of stuff they’ll be bombarded with.

I don't think people understand how spicy #Upscrolled is going to get. The CEO professes to have a "once it's not illegal" policy. Even if you have enough mods, that's not going to wind up great.
They seem to have no cap or rate limiting of registrations and are "blowing up" at the cost of a Discover feed that's got some fairly fucked up shit in right now. Gore, porn, propaganda for extremist groups, plenty of bigotry. If it was on fedi I'd have it blocked.

We're now seeing an outpouring of TikTok "refugees" flee to UpScrolled after new U.S. owners employ more censorship.
I hope that folks now understand how incredibly short-sighted it was for the Biden administration to give the executive branch new authority to buy anything foreign so long as it is a threat to the magic words "national security". It doesn't matter who is in power, a law that vague should never have passed.

@MaxG If you want more of something you should post it yourself, upscrolled will end in tears, especially their "we dont moderate on political bases" is a red flag that they will basically go the same way as bluesky. In case you didnt know, "politics" is used in this context to allow people to continue abusive or harmful behaviour that the moderator doesn't consider "political" and then those that speak out against it are considered political, I can't get into the entire history of similar cases right now but I've posts about problems with bluesky and I predict many of these will happen on upscrolled
Its basically got the same red flags as "free speech" enthusiasts
