I don’t dislike #Siri as much as other people. But sometimes it can be funny.

#Chicago got around a foot or more of snow over the weekend. When it’s this high, Watson has trouble pooping in the backyard unless we shovel out a spot for him.

Sometimes when he goes, Jess and I text each other that “we have lift off!” 😆

Taking him out just now, I did speech-to-text with my Watch and… well. 😆 #Lyft #Apple

Two iMessages I sent to Jessi using Siri. The first says “we have lift off,” but Siri inserted “Lyft,” the rideshare company. Then I also sent “LOL Siri.”

While I sipped my morning coffee this, uh, morning, I thought that there should be a free, user-owned, open source alternative to Uber and its ilk. (Because fuck them.)

Naturally I promptly discovered that I'm far from being the first person to think this.

There's a nascent little app called Compañero that does just that. It's actually a Telegram bot, so doesn't require a download (if you've got Telegram).

Read about its small-town beginnings: https://companero.io/about

Two mobile phones displaying the Companero app with a chat message saying: "You can specify your own price in local currency... but if you can't afford to pay click the Free Ride button.")
