I think the time has come to finish another article for my "Horror Stories", which will go on my blog.
Only a few parts are missing before it's ready to be published. The time is right, I am ready 😉

Friends of the BSD Cafe, I don't know if you've noticed that since yesterday, the #Mastodon instance has been showing the BSD Cafe logo as its icon. Before, I deliberately left the Mastodon one - but now I've had to add the BSD Cafe one because...well, you'll find out tomorrow morning 😊

The bad news is that tomorrow morning I'll be getting blood tests (a scheduled check-up) and will find out if I've eaten too much Tiramisu in recent months.
The good news is that tomorrow morning I'll be publishing the second part of the "Make your own backup server" series.
The good or bad news, depending on your perspective, is that the estimated reading time is 33 minutes (pessimistic, but it is long).
My inaugural article for the BSD Journal is slated for publication - it will be released Monday morning.
The first authors are already being granted their accounts to contribute new, engaging content - by the community, for the community.

When I think of BSD Cafe, I think of the atmosphere of the Italian bars from my childhood. I'll talk about this in detail at EuroBSDCon, but this photo really sums up the image I have. Places of relaxation, information, exchange of ideas, with the barista not just serving coffee but being a cog in the movement of social and cultural exchange among friends at the bar. And in this photo, there's also a detail about what I'll announce tomorrow. No, I'm not growing a mustache. For those, we have @evan

Still growing and learning every day.

sysctlview https://www.freshports.org/deskutils/sysctlview/ is a GUI utility for sysctl on #FreeBSD.
It's probably my first #opensource project 👨💻 , it's still in the Ports Collection 📦 and runs fine, but it hasn't been updated in years.
Maybe it's finally time to brush up on #C++ and give sysctlview a proper rewrite.
The original version uses #gtkmm (#GTK for C++), but a few years ago I ran a poll and most people preferred #qt
So maybe a QTsysctlview is on the horizon? 👀

I've been noticing a worrying trend: developers being pushed to value speed over understanding, relying on AI to just "get it done". But what happens when we no longer know what our code is really doing?
My take on this will be on it-notes tomorrow morning.
EDIT: Here it is: https://it-notes.dragas.net/2025/06/05/vibe-coding-will-rob-us-of-our-freedom/
