I think the same thing that just happened with #Commodore should also happen with #NeXT. A representative of "the community" should acquire all rights to NeXT and revive the company. 😃

Al MIT viene installato il primo banco di memoria a nuclei magnetici nel progetto Whirlwind di Jay Forrester.
Usava anelli di ferrite per memorizzare dati come bit, con accesso rapido. Sostituì le memorie a tubo catodico, migliorando velocità e affidabilità.
Fu un passo fondamentale nell’informatica, aprendo la strada a memorie più efficienti e progetti come il sistema di difesa SAGE.

Adriano Olivetti fonda la Società Olivetti.
Dal 1940 la Olivetti produrrà macchine che saranno in tutti gli uffici del mondo. Negli anni '60 produrrà in milioni di unità la Divisumma 24 con fatturati da capogiro.
Alla fiera di New York, nel 1965, presenterà la Programma 101, il primo desktop computer programmabile, che otterrà un buon successo commerciale.

Radio Shack annuncia il TRS-80, suo primo personal computer con 4KB di RAM, lettore/scrittore su audiocassette e BASIC integrato.
Insieme a Commodore PET e Apple II, è tra i primi PC di massa, pensati per il grande pubblico e non solo per gli appassionati di kit da assemblare.
Trova ampio successo anche nelle scuole.
