A full day of full sun in November? I try to take advantage of every moment. Hiking this morning, biking this afternoon. We'll find out tomorrow if I overdid it. I got to join these geese on a segment of their flight.

Nice to know from replies that there is a wide range of different names to call the neck-tube thing! (which I did not know existed before living in Saskatchewan, and now wear every day for probably ~1/3 of the year)
This is the pattern for my favourite one (the one that I need to find...) and it's called a cowl in the pattern! Yet another name! https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/sockhead-cowl
I haven't seen anyone call them a "dickie" (although Wikipedia does list it as an alternate name).
My Mom always called them dickies, and coincidentally I just found the bag with my Mom's dickies that I was going to use for biking.
Until we got 20+ cm of snow that tell me biking season is over, dickies or not.

I like to sit in a comfy warm room next to a contented cat and ruminate on Mastodon. Maybe have a nice warm beverage and disapprovingly side eye the grey outdoors
Other people like to... oh jesus christ, fuck no

Hi! Sorry, no, it was home life being a bit off the rails and interrupting school and extracurricular life.
I've pencilled in the december meeting, we'll see!
The December @kwlug meeting should be good: @uxmark is presenting the @CyclingGuide!

again, I cannot stress enough: put a handle/pushbar on your bike trailer. you will not regret your choices here. do it.
hm, what else.
I could feel the usual assist confusion with the trailer. It was no worse (and maybe less bad) than with the lighter first trailer I made. Everything just seemed more even, including that.
I still need to add some kind of flag attachment, but that's not a test, that's just something I need to do.
Anyway. That's that test taken care. And wow, did it go great. :D
Oh yeah, I didn't make this part so I didn't think of it, but the wheel locking system I inherited from the baby carrier I started with is also a great feature which you should preserve if you can. Having both big wheels lock is FUCKEN GREAT.
So if you decide like I do to watch Craigslist or Buy Nothing for a cheap beat up old infant carrier to turn into a bike cargo trailer, look for that too. I wasn't and just got lucky.
But it's not part I made so. ^_^
Basically this was a triumph, I'm making a note here, huge etc. It's not a cargo trailer for speed - then again, which ones are? - but it handles fine and it totally copes with our big hill.
I'll never take it up the scary end of our driveway, but the handle makes pushing the cart up that slope surprisingly easy. I mean, I'd been thinking "okay the general plan will be get the bike and the trailer down the big slope, then hook up and go, and when coming home, stop at the base, unhook, unload the cart _from_ the base, then roll the bike and trailer up."
NOPE
Stop at the base of the slope, unhook, _push the cart up fully loaded by using the big handle_. It's _fine_.

O-KAY!
That went GREAT.
Way better than the previous cart.
For one thing:
1. THE HANDLE IS AMAZING. I was a little "this'll definitely be nice to have upon occasion" but NOPE it's BETTER THAN THAT.
Make a handle for your bike trailer is what I'm saying.
2. The FLATBED. If you make a cart/cargo trailer, GIVE IT A FLAT BED. You will be very happy later. Wood is also a good idea. Things slide on it way less than on plastic.
3. I was worried about the weight but I think the cart being being heavier _helps_? It felt if anything _more_ stable than the previous cart. Less bouncy, less jittery, less _loud_ somehow, probably from all of that.

lake forest park town centre!
the test ride downhill was pleasantly uneventful. it’s heavy but well-behaved.
I did not make any good progress on my project to read GPX data with Python today. (Trying to read speed.) May need to just read it as XML.
There are a bunch of nerds who do Python and bikes though, so someone might have the code example I need.
First (real) ride on the new bike. So chuffed! Also, found a dollar on the way home so yeah, biking really pays off!
Schabas's ruling on Toronto bike lanes is great reading! He repeatedly points out the Ontario government's case has no evidence, or is contrary to the evidence, and was contrary to the government's own CIMA report, which they took a long time to reveal.
ie. Doug Ford et. al. lied by omission, lied outright, then lied and tried to hide it.
And the cherry on top: Cycle Toronto was represented pro bono, but Schabas awarded their counsel $200,000 in costs anyway!
For folks who are interested, Justice Schabas’s actual judgment makes for engaging and invigorating reading. He has little time for the government’s lazy, BS “reasoning” and he makes it crystal clear why.
(Edited to correct “Judge Schabas" to “Justice Schabas”)

I recently biked along the Baltic Sea in Poland, from Gdansk to Sopot. It was one of the most sublime rides of my life.
I wondered: Why are there so few places in North America where people can cycle along the coast, separated from cars?
My exploration, in Bloomberg
