And my favorite from today. The CTA has been such a core part of my experience in Chicago, and I love taking photos of these trains.

A photo of a CTA train numbered 514 shot from below. The bright, light blue sky contrasts heavily with the dark metal of the train and the near-black trackwork. Five thick wires run alongside, cutting lines into the sky.

Sometimes I wonder if the real reason I’m not a more successful artist is that I insist on making niche works which will appeal to, for instance, only those within the intersecting sliver of the venn diagram of people who like the Hollow Knight Silksong family of video games and people who are from Toronto and/or are urban public transit enthusiasts, who will recognise this stop on the TTC. Anyway that’s why I made this a limited edition print.

An art print of a watercolour painting of Hornet from Hollow Knight riding a TTC tram in Toronto, waiting for the tram to arrive at her stop, Shaw Street.

Minor transit annoyance: an automated voice on the tram saying "Now entering X station, doors to my left/right", but the voice is coming from overhead rather than the front of the car, so you can't orient to anything. Whereas if it was a human making the announcement, you would more easily infer that the speaker is facing the front of the car.

A much greater annoyance was the old TTS PA system used by #SoundTransit (Seattle) Link Light Rail which pronounced it "linklight rail" with the emphasis on "light", making the phrase almost unintelligible.

I don't want self driving cars. I want boring things like public transit that comes so regularly I don't need to check a schedule. I want fast passenger rail so accessible and easy it's preferable to suffering airports. I want cities that aren't built around cars-as-default.
