a close-up of a horizontal fallen log, stripped of bark and very damp from recent rain, with a variety of layered colors, and some exotic patterns etched into its surface by termites like a cursive script bas relief

a jagged end of a redwood-type tree where it cracked in two, with concentric rings visible from the center outward, interrupted by opposing layers of fracture running straight down across the rings

a slightly-dryer fallen log, also stripped of bark, with hundreds of light black oval spots on it, still of uncertain origin, but my best speculation being that the spots mark where woodpeckers had drilled holes while the tree still DID have bark, and the underlying wood was exposed long before the bark ultimately fell away

another fallen log, fractured in very jagged and spiky segments pointing to the right, a DARK rich red, nearly brown color, with the beginnings of moss starting to grow on a few segments

Little concrete bumps stick out of the water’s surface like islands, and a patch of dirty snow and ice slopes upward from left to right in the foreground at bottom frame. Reflected in the water is a pale winter sun, in a small opening of blue sky surrounded by gray clouds. Although it’s clear what the image is, it also makes me think of a snow-capped mountain lit by a waning sun, shining through the clouds of a gathering storm.
