Looking for language learning suggestions: family member has used Duolingo for years, gave them family license to get rid of ads, but then Duolingo fired most of staff and switched to AI inaccuracies
It's a decent service if you want to speak to a robot owl, but getting ever more incorrect
Platforms or the people learning are Linux and Android
Self-hosting not an option at this time

I decided to stop supporting Duolingo this year, after they tripled down on using artificial intelligence and replace the talented humans who used to build for teaching. I let my paid membership lapse, but continued to use the "free" version (recognizing the advertisements still drove $$$ to the company).
But, I had a goal in mind. Breaking with Duolingo is as easy as 1234. I've done my last lesson.

Duolingo just gave me a free preview of one of their ad-free tiers again (after getting wise to me starting and cancelling free trials repeatedly)
And holy shit this is actually usable without the enshittified free tier.
I need to switch to something else to keep my progress up because god knows I am not going to continue doing this for fun when this preview thinger ends.
Anyone have an alternative they like? Possibly a free one at the beginning of the enshittification cycle?
