more data on those “52 million americans” who congressional #dems think are using #crypto but actually aren’t: according to the atlanta federal reserve crypto ownership declined once again to 7.7% of adults in 2024 from its peak of 9.6% in 2022.

that 7.7% number includes people speculating on bitcoin via ETFs etc which is hardly “usage”. less than 2% of americans actually “use” crypto for anything (and a lot of that is probably just bros buying NFTs).

One of the side-effects of the AI bubble is that we stopped talking about alternative solutions to computing problems. Everything needs to be solved with "AI" - meaning an LLM - and nobody stops and asks if there is an alternative. This drives me mad because LLMs are not only unreliable, but also shockingly inefficient. And I'm positive that for most tasks there is an alternative algorithmic solution that is more reliable and less expensive.

What if, listen to me, what if, instead, we relocated Palestinians and Gazans... directly on the Blockchain?

"The Trump administration and international partners are discussing proposals to build a 'Riviera of the Middle East' on the rubble of Gaza. One would establish U.S. control and pay Palestinians to leave."

Those who own land would be offered a digital token by the trust in exchange for rights to redevelop their property, to be used to finance a new life elsewhere or eventually redeemed for an apartment in one of six to eight new “Al-powered, smart cities” to be built in Gaza. Each Palestinian who chooses to leave would be given a $5,000 cash payment and subsidies to cover four years of rent elsewhere, as well as a year of food.

What do you ( #fediverse ) think of a social networking done on (via) the #blockchain ?
Are there working proof of concept implementations?

Since @silverpill already working on PKI\cryptography for fediverse, blockchain seems like a next evolutionary step for social networking, since it's just distributed (cryptographic) database.

I'm sorry that I lack resources & haven't put enough effort researching #crypto, #freenet , #hyphanet . But it seems to me kinda on topic, So I want to hear from people.
Maybe I want to hear from people like @ArneBab & @silverpill
I don't know here anyone else who work on #p2p social networking.

Uhm... Tavis Ormandy works for Google, that is responsible of some of the aggressive crawlers Anubis try to block.

Whatever he writes on his blog should be read within such cultural frame.

Maybe they will soon enable #JS execution in crawlers, but if Anubis get massive adoption, #AI crawling will becomes much more expensive. Consider they will also have to avoid smarter guys trying polluting their models. So all, in all, I still think Anubis is a good idea.

Also, if they enable JS in the crawlers, I'm going to turn them into #bitcoin miners.
That might the very first use case for a #cryptocurrency since 2008!

I'm notoriously a #blockchain mocker, considering the whole technology stack as a large-scale scam-factory framework.
But getting money out of #Google, #Amazon, #Facebook and similar #BigTech might be the very first legit and useful use case for a miner since bitcoin invention.

🪤 Disguised Unemployment? 88% of Ethereum Protocols Are Not Earning Revenue vs 75% in Solana

「 On Ethereum, 88% of its 1,271 protocols have not generated revenue in the past 30 days, while Solana sees 75% of its 264 protocols inactive.
Inactive smart contracts increase storage burdens, security risks, and economic inefficiency, hindering the overall user experience 」

#TheCryptocalypseChronicles: Epstein's Arrest Shook The Blockchain

Jeffrey Epstein's arrest seems to have set off a wave of suspicious crypto payments that have heretofore gone unexamined.

1. The 2nd highest volume day in bitcoin history came a week after Epstein died.

2. #Stablecoin transfer volumes doubled less than 48 hours after Epstein was arrested. In particular #Tether, the stablecoin whose money is managed by Epstein's next door neighbor and #Trump's current Secretary of Commerce, saw on chain volumes skyrocket.

Also there's the matter of a bunch of suspicious deaths among Epstein's crypto circle.

(RTs appreciated)

It makes me chuckle a little that one of the biggest NFT stores on the Cardano blockchain is just called 'JPG Store'.

So many people are like "NFTs are shit. Do you not realise you're just buying an image?" and the name 'JPG Store' is just screaming "Come and buy some expensive JPGs"

Why most radical tech is pointless, and why #indymediaback isn’t

Almost everything built in today’s alt-radical tech scene is, bluntly, pointless. Despite good intentions, most of it ends up feeding the endless cycle of #fashernista churn, flashy new platforms, bleeding-edge protocols, or encrypted communication tools nobody uses, built by isolated teams disconnected from real-world needs or history. This is the #geekproblem: a culture where novelty is fetishized, and social usefulness is an afterthought, if it appears at all.
