Denn der europäische #DigitalMarketsAct verpflichtet Apple, auch App Stores von Drittanbieter*innen zuzulassen. Die Möglichkeit hat das Unternehmen zwar mittlerweile grundsätzlich geschaffen. In der Praxis machen zahlreiche Auflagen das aber fast unmöglich.

In addition to telling #Google that locking down #Android is bad, I'd also recommend every app developer to write to the @EUCommission's #DMA enforcement team and tell them that this practically circumvents Article 6(4) of the #DigitalMarketsAct, which was supposed to enable 3rd party app (stores).
The EC is discussing the same question with #Apple atm and they have to understand what happens if they let this happen.

🇪🇺 Brussels speaks clearly. @EU_Commission confirmed to us: The #DigitalMarketsAct is non-negotiable, not even as part of trade talks with Donald Trump.
💪 We welcome the EC’s reaffirmation of its commitment to neutral, robust, and evidence-based enforcement of the #DMA. But we call on the Commissioners to strengthen enforcement and make sure gatekeepers cannot get away with circumventing the law.

I only now read Georg Riekeles' excellent 2022 account of #BigTech's outrageous global #lobbying influence. While I don't agree with everything (e.g. his take on #liability and the #copyright debate), after 15 years in #EU #Brussels I'd say his long-read is frighteningly accurate.

It felt like kindergarten to do it but this week we @edri +others filed a complaint against #Google with the @EUCommission for breach of the #DigitalMarketsAct.
Despite the #DMA's clear obligation for #gatekeepers to allow you to uninstall pre-installed apps, #Alphabet claims this can also mean disabling. Yes seriously.
So we wrote a 7-page explanation why disable ≠ uninstall.
The complaint was filed together with @article19, @fsfe, @Freiheitsrechte, @HomoDigitalisGR and @vrijschrift 🙏
