🇯🇴 The "Lost" City of Petra, Jordan. Carved into red desert sandstone cliffs in southern Jordan, #Petra is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Shaped by wind and time, its rock-cut façades stand as a reminder that even great civilisations fade.
For centuries, Petra was lost to the outside world until Swiss explorer Johann Ludwig Burckhardt “rediscovered” it in 1812.

A very popular spot, so hard to take a photo without people or power lines🤔
Last year, I got a nice shot, but with power lines 🙃
This year, there are no power lines, but there are a few people (if you look closely). Still, I don’t think it’s too bad 😊
Fishing is not permitted in this area, but there are good fishing spots both upstream and downstream of the park.

For #ThickTrunkTuesday please appreciate this big old barrel cactus. I think it merits being understood as a 'trunk' even if it's not technically a tree - it's about hip-height, and its shape tell us that it has seen some things come and some other things go. Someone tied a string around it, ffs. Still, it persists.

This wonderful sandstone formation, unfortunately named by colonialists as "De Gaulle and His Troops" in the further unfortunately named by colonialists "Valley of the Gods," is, no matter how poorly named, a favorite feature on mine. Here it is beautifully lit as the sun broke over a nearby mesa top.
