Late night unpacking in #ThisOldClownHouse
(No longer contains dynamite, but the box is legit)
Today we encouraged a confused ladybug back outside.
I've been traveling with a small, multipurpose toolkit for years of my theater and circus life.
Slowly built up over time, it held almost exactly what was needed for a variably bizarre set of needs.
We called it the "Roustabout Toolbag" or "Roustie Kit" for short.
When we got to #ThisOldClownHouse, the kit continued to do its job: Just enough tools to solve problems, start projects, and make the impossible happen.
Tonight, I unpacked the last of the kit…to organize into a larger toolbox. :)
After unpacking all of the velocipedes here at #ThisOldClownHouse, I rewarded our hard work by opening an incredible gift sent to us by @yantor3d
It's a set of wirelessly controlled LED lights, specifically designed to bolt onto our unicycles and trick bikes!
Here's a quick video of them in action:

Thank you so much!
Today's moment of pure and simple joy:
Unpacking and "test riding" a kick scooter through the entire downstairs of #ThisOldClownHouse
The kitchen was a little tricky to take at speed. ;)
Once again I'm reminded that, with little or no warning, #ThisOldClownHouse gets incredible surprise gifts by mail.
Amongst yesterday's envelopes was this amazing wood vase, made by @davepolaschek's talented hands.
Thank you! <3
We keep a mallet for 'smart' emergencies.
One of the creature comforts of #ThisOldClownHouse has been finally getting some control over our network infrastructure.
As I unpack stuff from past projects, I realize quickly that the line between 'promotional materials' and 'meaningful memorabilia' is particularly fluid.
Today I found..
Cast/crew photos from my first narrative circus show, signed by each person who helped build that world.
Prop scripts from a project which were destroyed on stage as part of the opening act. I forgot that I kept the extra prints.
Old photo postcards from early incarnations of our circus troupe.
All brimming with memory now.
For now, back in a box.
Eventually they'll be framed and displayed here in #ThisOldClownHouse.
One other glorious find...
During our initial explorations of #tokipona and clown, we made a bunch of 'gift tags' for a show. They were inscribed with the 'jan nasa pona' glyph we created.
The best of the bunch was scanned, vectorised, and became the glyph on the footer of our website.
I found the tag we used! It's going in a curio cabinet for a bit, so I can see it in the lounge while resting.
I am glad I listened to the friend who told me that, "Right angles scare children."
It has kept me from being completely surprised as our local infrastructure has become more and more dependent on weirdly cut, hastily painted shims.
Today years of acrobatics training, pratfall practice, and standing on one foot while brushing my teeth came together to save me from falling down a flight of stairs.
Keep playing, and watch your step!
Today we'll be reassembling one room and continuing to assemble another.
It's like we're doing a dance move with #ThisOldClownHouse.
Today I'm reminded of one of the first nonessential creative objects I threw together in #ThisOldClownHouse
There was a cheap clock on the wall with a pushy religious phrase.
I tore it apart. I destroyed it. Broke it. Remade it. It isn't even a clock anymore.
It now has a glyphtic phrase in #tokipona on it:
'Ijo wan lon tenpo wan'
(One thing in one time)
The word lon also means present, here, and truth.
An arrow points directly at it, as if to say, "You're not too late, it's still now."
Today's tiny victory is the word "minimal" in front of the words "water damage".
We had a radiator cap leak a bit. Thankfully we caught it early. As a bonus, the carpet tile we used in the room was rubber backed! It caught almost all of the water, protecting the subfloor from serious damage.
We've got fans on it now, and tomorrow we'll put the room back together.
The current oddity is having to climb through a bed frame to get in and out of the room.
While I agree, the aesthetics of #ThisOldClownHouse usually has us thinking in terms of old ships.
Especially on rainy nights like tonight.
My health unceremoniously tossed me back onto night crew, so I'm having a cuppa and pummelling some todos with many pacing breaks.
So far, the library benches have their first coat of sealer. I'm hoping to get the library carpet taped next.
Let's do this.
Library update:
The bench top is painted!
(See alt text for details)
While it dries, I've been prepping the floor for carpeting.
I still need to add a top coat to the bench, so it's a race to see which will get installed first.
Mission accomplished!
@SocialGaff once again gets credit for wrangling #Wattsworth, the electric tentacle monster who lives in the walls of #ThisOldClownHouse.
The upgrade is significant, and the lighting is so much better.
Some days, you build your dreams.
Some days, you discover water damage.
Today's been a bit of both.
While rearranging and unpacking props, I found a bit of damp floor in the theater. We moved a few items, and found moldering carpet.
Thankfully it's non-infrastructural, and the fans are being deployed fans to dry the area.
It seems that old bar fridge we've been ignoring demanded attention. We're planning on taking it for a walk shortly... ;)
