Any suggestions for a decent 2.5Gb switch in the EU.
Managed would be nice, but it's not a must

Well, this was a surprise. Decided to run a simple LAN ping test between two of my access points, and the results were not what I expected.
Contender 1: The "mighty" Ubiquiti UniFi AC Lite
Contender 2: The tiny MikroTik mAP Lite
The winner? By a long shot, the MikroTik! It showed much better stability and lower latency.
The Stats:
- MikroTik: Avg 8.2ms / Jitter 10ms
- Ubiquiti: Avg 15.4ms / Jitter 32.1ms
Goes to show that size isn't everything in the world of networking.

I don't own a device from MikroTik yet, but followed reports by tech people who swear by the price / performance / quality ratio of this devices.
My next Wi-Fi router will most definitely be MikroTik. Same with my next managed switch that will have 2.5 Gbit

Can’t connect to public WiFi via Linux
I am using Fedora 42, and I am unable to access the captive portal of inOui TGV. I can connect to the WiFi with no problems, but I can’t get access to the Internet.
I have tried everything:
192.168.1.1
, to http://neverssl.com
, to http://wifi.sncf
via browsersudo dhclient -r
and rebooting the devicesystemctl restart NetworkManager
Nothing works 😩
Can somebody who understands this stuff help me?

ok, to handle this issue:
https://arxiv.org/html/2501.16466v3
there's now that service, kind of

I find this quite an interesting perspective on the future ™.
Well, never panic, just worry.
⚠️ Signups are currently deactivated!
We're now slightly below 1000 free VPS instances!
Within the last few weeks, coming with new locations around the world, we got more and more signups, where people can also test their setups across different geo locations @BoxyBSD.
Unfortunately, this also increases the required support which is really time consuming and only handled by @gyptazy. While everything is fully automated, support is another thing and I need a short break. Hope to open the signups quickly again.
PS: This project is completely free, not even any donation possibilities etc - just imagine a box would only cost 1$.

Any #network engineers out there looking for a job? I'm looking for one or two good engineers to help me build a global network to make our company #selfhosted. Currently have PoPs in 7 countries with plans to expand.
Need to know #bgp, #mpls, #ospf and #vxlan. #linux and #automation skills are useful too.
The position is #fullyremote with occasional travel for hardware installs and maintenance.

This is a screen capture of KDE Connect on one of my Androids.
As you can clearly see my LAN has quite an amount of devices. All of these devices are being used by me.
They have specific purposes which makes my Android experience along with my Computing experience versatile and efficient.
I did not know how important KDE connect was for me. When I learned about it, I knew that it doesn't just enrich what I can do
KDE Connect is not a gimmick where I can control a Media Player, without any network connectivity by itself, from any of my KDE Connect devices. Many different functions can be handled smoothly without any problems, with the highest Speed that my wLAN can deliver from the point of my view of the LAN routers I have in my network.
Right now I'm using a wLAN router that is portable. This enables me to have the most efficient data transfer Speed between the devices I have on me without any snooping from any Big Company.

My wifey approved #homelab had to move...
The reason is easy - you can probably already guess that there might be some thermal problems raising on the left picture. It resulted into permanently spinning & annoying fans. Also the temperatures went a way too high. So, easy solution - everything moved into a metal shoe rack under my working desk. From ~80°C CPU temperature it dropped to ~65°C without spinning fans.

Load Balancing in #Proxmox Clusters? #ProxLB just got released in version 1.1.2. Let's make the switch to #opensource together!
Now, focusing on power management for nodes (like DPM) & auto node security patching :)
