KiDoom: Running DOOM on PCB Traces // Michael Ayles
「 What if DOOM's walls were actual PCB traces? What if enemies were QFP-64 chips and health packs were SOT-23 transistors? KiDoom answers these questions nobody asked, bringing the iconic first-person shooter to KiCad's PCB editor using authentic electrical components as the rendering medium 」

KiDoom is a brilliantly absurd technical demo that runs DOOM using a PCB editor as its display. Walls are copper traces, enemies are chip packages, and every frame generates a real, fabricatable circuit board. It's a fully playable port that proves PCB editors can be creatively repurposed, achieving 10-25 FPS by rendering the game's vector data with authentic electronic components.

This is your daily reminder that Microsoft is subject to a BDS boycott due to its active support of the IDF during the genocide in Palestine via Microsoft Azure & AI services. Microsoft has additionally actively tried to purge pro-Palestinian dissent among its employees and has repeatedly fired people for objecting to its complicity in genocide. If you support Microsoft (or its products) with your money or with your voice, your supporting is helping to enable genocide.
In September of this year, Microsoft (allegedly) cut off Microsoft Azure access for a unit of the IDF that was using it for mass surveillance of Palestinians. This is a major victory, but Microsoft is still doing business with the IDF as a whole and is thus still complicit in genocide.
This boycott targets most of Microsoft's products and services, including the entirety of Microsoft's gaming division. This means every company owned by Microsoft - and unfortunately, that is a lot.
Popular developers owned by Microsoft include ID software, Bethesda, Activision Blizzard, Obsidian Entertainment, Double Fine, and Mojang.
Popular & upcoming games included in this boycott are Overwatch 2, Minecraft, Doom: The Dark Ages, the Oblivion Remake, The Outer Worlds 2, the Elder Scrolls Online, every Call of Duty game, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4, the Forza series, and more.
If you aren't willing to stop playing these games, please consider at least not spending any money on them and not amplifying them on social media. It sucks, I know. I have been a huge fan of ID software and Bethesda for much of my life. But they will still be here in a few years, whereas if we do not do everything in our power stop the genocide in Palestine, Palestine may not.

I've been playing this Doom mod called Doomscrolling and it's depressing as fuck
with the name I expected you would use scrolls and magic as attacks, but instead you go down this corridor that never ends, and instead of attacking demons like usual, you see them sharing things made to get an emotion out of you, or ai slop, lots of both
it's monotonous, it's depressing, it's everything I hate and I don't know what the mod creator was thinking with this
5/10, somehow it's more addictive than Balatro and any survivorslike, I gotta check out the sequel "Doomposting" too...

Using a SPARCbook to play DOOM
So many birds!
Ha! Found one of the #DOOM levels I created back in the mid nineties on an old backup CD and just played through it in DOSbox. It’s surprisingly good fun (and brutally hard). The timestamp on the .WAD is Dec 23rd, 1996. I should probably release it to the public for its 30th birthday next year. 😅
