@rocking_horse you are jumping from "Signal requires phone numbers to register" all the way to claiming on this basis alone that it does not offer privacy during use – which is demonstrably false, based on loads of evidence.
It's as if I said "you seem to insist on besmirching a secure IM without proof, therefore you must necessarily be a law enforcement plant trying to get people to stop using one of the few tools that can protect them from surveillance".
Does that sound reasonable to you?

The reasons why @signalapp chose to do this – a decision I myself would prefer them not have taken by the way – have been mentioned here. Even though I would have preferred them not doing that, these reasons are still reasonable to me.
You keep implying this is somehow horribly bad and enough reason to leave Signal – and I would like to understand what exactly is the "horrible thing" here, specifically?

I would like you to substantiate that claim somehow. "I have a hunch" is not enough.
I would also like you to spell out *why* you think they would want to obtain phone numbers. You are making it sound somehow bad or malicious, even though non-malicious explanations for this have been provided.
So what, exactly, are you implying that Signal is doing with those phone numbers that is so evil?
