Two bluebirds are in the small feeder, one bluebird is hovering above them, attempting to land and one is perched nearby, awaiting its turn.

Two male bluebirds were fighting over the feeder. One took to the air and got the upper wing, so to speak. Once one bird gets their claws close to their opponents eyes, the contest is over, as no bird wants an eye injury. Here the hovering bird, beak open aggressively, brings its claws down on its opponent's head.

The endangered Santa Marta antpitta lives only on the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountain range in Colombia. It lives and feeds on the forest floor at elevations above 1,000 meters. This is a female Red-shafted Northern Flicker. Flickers are much easier to spot than most woodpeckers, but that doesn't mean they are any the less interesting. One of my goals for this year is to catch their mating dance when two males will engage in a dance off before a prospective mate.
