The first rose of spring: the Deep Secret, which was still blooming back in July.
This particular blossom has survived the past two days of severe gales and will hopefully survive another tomorrow.

A Deep Secret perfuming the entire room.

The season's change seems to coincide with tons of other uncertainties. The winds are bringing positive change or not? I hope so but like lots of folks I don't want to hope too hard because our future still seems very much in play.
One thing is certain though. Our garden is marching on towards winter and the promise of spring is already sprouting through the grass. Our daffodils are showing up just as the roses are putting out last flowers before they die back for the season.
Time marches on though and there is no uncertainty of that fact.
The good news is that I find myself daring to hope that better times are maybe not right around the corner but just down the road a piece.

Caught this glimpse of roses glowing in the late afternoon light. It reminds me a bit of the magic we all have inside.
A bit tattered, some burned edges from the last heat wave, but the roses keep going. Roses are some of the easiest and most forgiving plants for a garden. I remember once pruning mine with hedge shears (divorce, don't ask). Forget to feed, prune or deadhead? No problem!

Does anyone know what this might be? On a dog rose in my garden in the midlands uk. I looked up Robin's pincushion, but that seems to be bigger and on stems rather than leaves?
