Hmmm. I seem to do better when playing as black at chess. Which indicates I need to work on my openings. The queen's gambit is not working for me.

My chess in 2026:
First, the Australian Junior Championship starts tomorrow in Canberra at St Edmunds College. I won't be in Canberra, but will be working with many Tasmanian juniors who are playing.
I have also dumped chess dot com, and am moving fully to lichess.org. They had a question to answer about why I have decided to leave, and my response was "I don't want to buy American products". Of course, I might rejoin later if the USA comes out of this Orwellian freakishness, but then again, I doubt it.
I will play in a tournament in Hobart but I am debating whether to stop playing internationally rated chess as I have a lot of issues with the current International chess federation. I'm loathe to do this, as I believe that the organisation is fine for running chess, but the personnel in charge are toxic at the moment. I'll have about a month to debate before the Tasmanian Championships happen, here in Launceston.

Hoooly shi…As I was looking for some chess positions, I found this to be very impressive.
So, on a lighter note, there might’ve been karaoke at the local pub yesterday and I might’ve have sung a few songs… including (for the first time ever) a song in Turkish (Şımarık by Tarkan) and one of my favourite songs from one of my favorite musicals: Pity the Child from Chess.
Sound quality: typical pub karaoke quality :)
I am just learning to play #chess and would like to find an app for the iPhone that 1) I can play offline and 2) doesn't require me to sign in or pay a ton of $$ to play.
Does this exist?
I don't have people to play against IRL.
Paper #book recommendations also welcome, possibly preferable. I think it might be fun to set up my board and run through some games, but I have no idea where to look for any guides like that.
